Alex Jones: We Are Nearing The End Of Societal Order

I don't think too highly of Alex Jones myself, but he does have a point.

I know that we all need forms of entertainment. It's a part of what makes us human. But it becomes a problem when that seems to be all we care about. When some of the biggest headlines consist of LeBron moving to Miami, Lindsay Lohan going to jail and that Paris Hilton got caught with pot (again), it's no wonder why we're in the shape that we're in.

Perhaps we should start caring about events such as global warming, the BP oil spill and our economy?

Bill Gates

Besides a few revolutionary scientists, society has never really turned scientists into celebrities. I don't think we're any different in that regard than we were 50 years ago. But 50 years ago we didn't have to worry about China.

Then you haven't been paying attention to the news.
Isn't that business as usual?

I'm proud of you. I seriously couldn't give two dog shits about James yet I haven't been able to escape the media hype. I don't know how the fuck you have been able to escape it but I congratulate you on your great success.

Get rid of the tv........Not only does it make it easier to ignore the stupid stuff you get more work done. Been almost three years since I have owned one and my life is way better without it.

The world goes in cycles..... we are in a down swing, technology will continue to improve, create more jobs, and it will swing back up. No need for fear mongering

You know marketing is what perpetuates the lack of social order, as Alex Jones puts it.

its guys like AJ that only make shit worse.. now 30,000+ people who watched that video will start thinking "the world is falling apart, etc." fuck his optimism.. glass half empty there mr Jones?

Same shit was being said in 1930 during the great depression when everybody was wondering how many home runs Babe Ruth was gonna hit, yet amazingly here America stands 80 years later, the lone superpower (for now). The more things change the more they stay the same. Alex jones is a huckster just like the other media types he rails against, you people are supposed to be marketers, don't you know everybody is selling something.

Why can't he be selling something, yet be more accurate than his competitors?

There is a market entry for him, because of bullshit news. It has given him an opportunity, to be a 'huckster' by filling that void in the market.

His motives may not be altruistic, but the facts are more true than mass media.

Even if he is selling fear, worst case scenario is that people were over prepared, and concentrating on real issues.

It doesn't really matter anymore though. Whatever is going to happen is going to happen.

Discussions don't hurt though.

LOL @ Alex Jones

But I'll give him props, he is the KING of trend marketing, well actually counter-trend marketing. People will listen to him and buy his dvd's soley because it's the anti-establishment point of view. In a few years when the electoral pendulum swings and it's the republicans turn to take charge he'll go back to talking about how 9.11 was an inside job, teachers being taught brainwashing techniques at FEMA camps, and talking trash about police officers and armed services members. The sad part is that he'll probably be twice as popular by then.

We didn't owe 13 trillion dollars in the 1930's or have no industrial base back then.

Back then the GDP was under 100 billion (about 1 trillion if you adjust for inflation), compared to 14 trillion today. The debt as a percent of GDP was higher in the 40s with WWII than it is now.

BTW just listened to Alex's latest interview with Ted Nugent...don't agree with it all of course but it was still fucking awesome :D

shut down 4 of your 5 monitors filled with reddit/delicious and digg.

then turn off your television, and block all news sites.

your welcome, welcome to the world of winning in any economy AND waking up thinking life's pretty good.

you can call it putting your blinders on, however I vote and I selectively stay informed (Inc and Outside magazine monthly). I had no idea of the LeBron thing either until a colleague mentioned it today.

Comically I also had no idea that the heat were a miami team.

I believe that between social sites/conversational IM/news sites/sports sites/youtube/hulu the average American of working age wastes 3 working hours at their job a day. In demographics from 20-35 I think that probably goes to 5

Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, Lewis and Clark. Can you name any inventor or scientist now? The change in who we idolize is very real.

Jobs, Gates...

The biggest difference today is it's hard to take credit on most inventions when there's 4000 scientists working on one project...

Ha! Jobs is the master of spin and hype, not of invention. Gates, well he had his run, and it was good, but it'll be run into the round thanks to his predecessors (think KIN which was canned after only several weeks and billions of dollars spent),

I read news but skip all Lebron, Lindsay, Paris and shits like that. Only choose what you want to know and read.
