Allergies are killing me

I've had allergies all my life. The only thing I actually know I'm allergic to is milk and I don't even drink milk. I recently switched to a raw foods diet and my allergies actually got a lot better, but they're still there.

I can barely breathe through my nose even though I've been taking flonase for a year. Every time I go to my doc he just tells me keep taking your flonase so he's useless.

So now that I saw how going raw actually helped, I want to take it a step further. I'm hoping some of you guys on here have had similar issues and maybe found some natural remedies that actually work.

I'm asking on here because w/ the recent discussions on things like nootropics I figured you guys would have some solutions.

Any help is appreciated.

I usually get my seasonal allergies at the beginning of the summer. This year, I'm getting them now - during the fall. They are absolutely awful.

I try to stay away from over-the-counter stuff, as I don't really know what long term effects they will have on my body. Most of that shit is pretty new, within the last 10-15 years.

From my own research on the topic, water intake is a big factor. Make sure you're getting at least your 8-10 glasses a day. This has helped me a lot.

I haven't experimented with diet, but I can imagine a healthier diet will help.

Allergists can give you a 3-month shot that will alleviate most allergies. Again, I try to stay away from that.

I've also heard about permanent laser allergy removal. Don't know much about it though.

It may not really alleviate the symptoms but dude if you are drinking enough water and hitting the gym on the regular your allergies will be more tolerable I promise. At least 80 ounces of water day and 3 20-minute cardio sesssions a week.

I shoot for two gallons of water a day, I rarely get all the way to that but I get close. Tons of water + healthy food (veggies, no grains, no dairy) makes your body function like a fucking machine. I noticed the biggest difference after eliminating dairy too personally.

dude i got you. forget nasonex and forget flonase. they barely did anything for me either. what you need is some astelin (azelastine HCL) that shit works wonders. it tastes like shit when you get some drainage from it(don't sniff too hard or too often immediately after you spray), but it will dry you up real quick like. the other nasal sprays only make it drain and don't dry it up so you feel like you are in hell.

i was using a high dosage of nasonex, but with astelin i only have to use one spray in each nostril once a day to maintain unless i am getting sick then i might do it twice a day. once in each nostril once a day is actually half the child dose and the adult dose is 2 sprays in each nostril, twice daily. i did the adult dose to start off when i was in your condition, but now like i said only need a half of a child dose a day to maintain or 1 child dose if i am getting sick.

All my life I've had bad allergies. Asthma as a kid, coughing, sneezing, a whole array of sensitivities. I had shots for years, been taking OTC meds daily for years. Everything in the medicine cabinet.

I can share a bit of what I've learned from all these years of suffering and treatment: Allergies and your particular sensitivities aren't always permanent. Did you know that your body replaces itself totally every seven years and your allergies could simply disappear? My mother always had a bad reaction to raw carrots and celery, and one day the problem just disappeared and she could eat them all she wanted.

You could also develop new allergies at any time.

This year my allergies were better than usual, in spite of all the rain we had and the weeds out there. Today I'm coughing and sneezing like I'm possessed, so I took the pills. Tonight figured out I have a head cold. Allergies gone? Maybe.

Why don't you suggest to your doc to get a food allergies test? Or maybe a more complete allergies test where they grid your arm?

It sounds like you have a lot of allergies. Figuring them out would be most proactive.

You can barely breath through your nose? I've had something similar.

Check for dust mite and grass allergies. If it's mostly indoors it's dust mite.

As for solving the problem. I took it to the extreme and replaced all carpet in our home with hardwood. I'm also taking some doses of a high concentrate solution to alleviate the dust mite allergy overall. I don't know if it's just placebo but shit I can breath again.

The hardwood definitely makes a big difference.

astelin is da FUCKING shit. Expensive here, but you can gank this shit for cheap in Mexico border towns.

I have seasonal, mostly spring and fall and this year is not so bad yet for me. I have learned to cope somewhat with them, but I took flonase, Singulair, Claritin, allegra, and like several other things and nothing tops astelin.

get that shit right there

Perfect timing on this thread as I just got back from the allergist today, doing my last set of tests to see what I'm allergic to.

Only thing that turned up positive was mold which I can't understand as my apartment is pretty damn clean. However, most days are one of the following: A) have nasal passages swelled up to where it's difficult to breathe...or B) a river of mucus running down my throat.

Doc says he recommends 6 months(!) of allergy shots, twice(!) a week. At around the 6 month mark, apparently patients see vast improvement, up to 90-95%.

Guess I'm gonna do that as I am out of fucking options since meds don't seem to work that well at all and taking Nasonex long term is not a healthy option anyways.

BTW, it's true that your allergies change as you get older. I used to have bad sneezing. Now it's mostly swollen nasal passages...and for whatever reason, I barely ever sneeze.

Get a NETI POT and use it twice a day. I and other people I've known were surprised how good they work.

Natural unprocessed bee pollen. Take it daily. Mix it in your food or drink or just eat it raw, tastes fine.

Helps a lot of people get over their allergies and is just generally awesome for you.

If you're lucky enough to be in an area with farmers markets, check for a bee guy. I get mine at a local farmers market.

Try a simple saline nasal spray if you haven't yet. Helped a couple people I know get rid of pretty severe allergies overnight. Simple salt water, nothing else. Curbs regular colds as well btw.

The allergies in Austin have been pretty decent this year, probably because there was no water for the plants to grow to make pollen.. but, this past week has seriously sucked. I can't hardly breath about half the time and whenever I think I can take a deep breath, my throat tickles until I cough. sigh..
