No videos or music here.. but I just got done watching the Pink Floyd - Pulse DVD. Un-fucking-believable. If you're a fan of Pink Floyd, you need to either download the audio of it, buy the CD/mp3, or order/download the DVD of this show. Normally, I download music, but when I really like the band, I'll buy it to give them credit for it. I just recently started to collect Pink Floyd shit. I was lucky enough to come across every vinyl album of theirs in my dad's collection, and they are all signed by Gilmour and Waters, pretty cool actually. I hate that it took me so long to get into Floyd, because I grew up listening to my dad's attempt at singing it, and my mom singing "Wish You Were Here" and "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" to my siblings and I when we were younger as we went to bed. Not your avg family, haha.

But anyhow, my brother went to see Roger Waters last week and said it was so amazing that he went out and bought tickets to see the 2nd show too. Personally, I prefer Gilmour over Waters, but goddamn, I would kill to see them play as a band again.

Any other Floyd fans here? If so, what are your top 3 favorite songs?
Mine are:
1. Comfortably Numb
2. Wish You Were Here
3. High Hopes

Definately a favorite of mine, probably top 3 would be

On the Turning Away, Comfortably Numb, and Time. Some say it sucks, but I prefer The Delicate Sound of Thunder

wish you were here, shinee on you, and numb...but this thread is pointless without some illegal downloading :D

Pink Floyd has so many its hard to say, but

Echoes
Learning To Fly
Welcome To The MAchine
Brain Damage

The Wall, the movie is also a must see!

I remember when they got back together for live aide... I devoted my entire saturday to sitting around watching the online stream for them to play. The TV stations here for some odd reasons didn't play Floyd. Because I'd much rather see some other boring middle of the saturday pointless show than one of the most influential bands ever play together for one last time.

As for a top 3, tough call. learning to fly, anything from the wall, wish you here.

I like the early Syd Barrett stuff. He passed on this year.

If I have to pick three:
1. Echoes - this thing is an epic
2. See Emily Play - classic Syd
3. Comfortably Numb - timeless and the most accessible PF song

Animals is a good album that doesn't get much mention for some reason. The concept really hits home with me. Waters compares each personality type with an animal. The dreamers are "pigs on the wing" (or it's how people see themselves and those close to them with a halo effect).

Jon, Gilmour is a much better performer but Waters was the conceptualist that gave Pink Floyd songs much deeper meanings than typical rock tunes IMO. If you're looking to expand a bit give "Carpet Crawlers" a listen from The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. That song got me into early Genesis because it's not far off from PF.

I really like progressive rock. PF is great but there are many other great bands from that scene. I often get flamed (in person) when I'm listening to some of this shit but as a pompous musician this stuff is easier to "get". :love-smiley-086:
  1. Early Genesis (Foxtrot, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway - Peter Gabriel era)
  2. Porcupine Tree (In Abentia - kinda like a cross between PF, later Marillion and Tool)
  3. Yes (Close to the Edge)
  4. Marillion (Brave) - For brave listeners
  5. Gentle Giant (Octopus, In A Glass House, Acquiring The Taste) - For really brave listeners
  6. The Flaming Lips (The Soft Bulletin and their newer stuff) - I count this as prog....brilliant
  7. Spocks Beard - pretty cool if you can find it

We don't need no education!

All of them. I don't think there is a Pink Floyd song that I don't enjoy listening to.

This brings back memories of watching Pink Floyd and eating a bunch of tabs... :hollering:

Saw them at the Oakland Coliseum a while back. It was the best show I have ever seen. Gilmour is amazing!

I had a girlfriend that was into them big time, haven't really paid attention to them before her...bah, thinking about it is making me nostalgic... :(

Anyway...

1. The Final Cut
2. Shine On You Crazy Diamond
3. Comfortably Numb
