Another Digital Camera Question

Sony's DSLRs are much better than their point and shoots. Ever heard of Konica Minolta? That's the difference between their P&S and DSLRs.

Your best bet is as Mikesev has said. Go to the store and see how they feel in your hands. Make sure you like the controls on adjusting shutter speed, aperture, ISO, and other controls you feel you will use. The deciding factor for many is the availability of lenses. Canon and Nikon rule the roost for a reason, they have tons of easily accessible, quality glass.

while it doesn't hurt to have it, using a DSLR to shoot video is just painful. I rather use my cellphone or flip

You clearly have no understanding of the 1080 HD video movement in DSLR cameras. There are Hollywood quality movies being shot on 5D and similar cameras. The aftermarket for steady cam kits, follow zooms, and other accesories is MASSIVE.

Carl Zeiss makes the second best lens (behind leica). And Sony is the only one who can use a AF zeiss lens...

"second best"? According to whom? Yes, they are nice, but so is Canon L series glass. Sony is famous for stereos and TVs, and Canon is famous for cameras, so I know which one I would look to when purchasing high end photographic equipment.

Coupling a CZ lens to a shitty body isn't going to do you much good.

yea but is it that useful for amature user to shoot a video of their daughter? Whatever fancy stuff those pro do doesn't matter much for most ppl.

if Sony is that shitty then why all those high end Nikon camera are using Sony's sensor?
nikon sony sensor - Google Search

D5000 is a great camera (you will love the battery duration), replace the strap right away if you decide to purchase it.

Why replace the strap? It's a little loose when I sling it on my shoulder.. but besides that..

Also, what do you guys think about the Bigma?

seriously, just take the sony off the list. is that a joke?

Seriously, are you a ratard? Do you have any clue how many Nikon DSLRs were made using Sony sensors? All of Nikon's DSLRs except the D2H/D3 series/D700 use Sony sensors. The zeiss glass is as good as any.

OP, any of those would be fine. all three brands are good. Lok for the features you think you want. Look at the prices of lenses you might want now as well as later on, this will likely be your biggest investment. Get a rocket blower to clean dust off your sensor, never use canned air. Always point your camera with the lens facing down when you change lenses. If you think you have dust on your sensor take a photo of the sky with the lens open all the way and out of focus, moving the camera when you take the shot. You will then be able to see where your dust is on your sensor.

if you like the Sony cameras look for a used a300. It's pretty well known to be a better camera than the a350. It also has a flip out lcd. An advantage of the Sony is you can use almost any Minolta AF lens and still have image stabalization since it is built into the camera and not each lens.

Any color issues can be easily corrected in PS. Were you looking at the images on a calibrated monitor? If not don't put to much weight into them.

For reviews check dpreview and Steve's digicams.

Thanks to all who took part in this.

I am also going towards the nikon, as I have used their analog SLRs years ago and really liked em.
