Someone that is solely interested in doing drugs would most likely go the Coke route. There is some 98%+ pure cocaine available all around the jungle that is relatively easy & cheap to get.

Those that are interested in Ayahuasca are more into spirituality, detox, self-healing, etc... hence why it's considered more of a herbal/alternative remedy than a drug.
 


I have to agree, I'm not interested in drugs for the idea of getting fucked up anymore.

But some of these hallucinogens are capable of enabling a self-actualization that isn't achieved naturally. If you've developed your ability to control your general attitude in good and bad situations, then you will most likely benefit from psilocybin ingenstion. If that is the case, I recommend it in reasonable doses.

Very interesting. I've smoked DMT, which I made from instructions on Erowid.org. Pretty easy to do. I'm sure an ayahuasca trip would be amazing. Traditionally, I think the songs/chanting done by the shaman and his crew are a core part of the experience. I'd definitely prefer to do it in that kind of setting, as opposed to making it myself.

Of the people who've done it in South America, or in a traditional setting, do you have any tips about finding a good shaman? I think with the growing popularity, there are a lot more scammy folks trying to cash in on the gringos going to the Amazon looking for an ayahuasca ceremony. That's definitely on my bucket list of things to do.

One of the most interesting things about ayahuasca is that it's ingesting DMT orally, and requires the mono-amine oxidase inhibitor to be orally active. Of all the thousands of plants in the Amazon, they figured out which two to mix together to make it work. How's that come about?

Erowid has some good stuff on DMT, and check out the book DMT: The Spirit Molecule by Rick Strassman, who's a psychiatrist from New Mexico who did the only clinical studies in the U.S. Also, lots of stuff by Terrence McKenna, if you're not familiar with him.

Have you ever ingested psilocybin? If so, how would you compare/contrast it with DMT?
 
Ayahuasca is a root/vine/some specific shit. But 'Ayahuasca rituals' involve more than just the root, and are unique to each chaman (they mix shit)

My girlfriend is Colombian. Ayahuasca changed her life more than I care to share with you fuckers.

If you do try it at home, it isn't the same as with a shaman. Thinking it is the same is like thinking you can drive a plane without crashing and without getting any guidance. You can get much further if you have someone that knows the terrain that is new to you.

If you want to go to a shaman, you have to be REALLY committed to your spirituality. It isn't like going to the airport hotel and ordering a new drink. It involves going out to shithole land, being patient, etc.

That's where I'm at as well.

This is something I potentially want to try in the near future. Probably not in the short term though, but definitely within the next couple years.

I was wondering if it's better to go with a professional camp ran by white people like this one: templeofthewayoflight.org - templeofthewayoflight.org (seems legit based on all their YouTube videos) or to travel there directly and search locally till you find someone you feel comfortable with. The way I look at it you can get screwed either way.

I've done mushrooms quite a few times. It's kind of tough to compare because I've just smoked DMT, which is very intense and short-lived. It's probably fairly different than ayahuasca. But, the defining quality of DMT in my experience is it's alien-ness, and also sense of really going "somewhere else," like a spirit realm.

But, I believe both are triptamine molecules, so there's some chemical similarities. But I'd leave it to folks with a lot more experience with DMT, or ayahuasca, to really answer that.

I've smoked DMT in a large enough dose to get the "crossing over" experience a few times. That is unlike anything I've experienced with psilocybin.

Yeah, that would be my take too. A personal recommendation from somebody you trust would nice. But I'd be reluctant to fully commit without meeting the shaman and being sure I got a very good vibe from him, and everybody else. It's a heavy thing to experience, I'm sure.

And, I think you want to take a month or so to purify your system, no alcohol, meat, etc. Not something to take lightly, but I'm sure it's amazing.
 
There are immense benefits to having a psychedelic experience in the right setting.

I wouldn't seek this out unless you are extremely experienced with psychedelics and truly looking to expand your consciousnesses.

Whenever I want to hear first hand experience on a drug I just type, "Joe Rogan [drug name]" into youtube. That man has tried fuckin' everything.
 
The more I research DMT the more I want to try it. Little to no side effects and lots of people reporting meeting aliens and spirit beings wating for them.

Might be that DMT is actually what some call the soul.

Living in Costa Rica, there is a shaman who does it here in the southern part of the country. A guy I know has been a couple times already and says it's incredible. I have considered jumping in on a session in future.
 
I have experienced most plant medicines. Yes medicines...these are the furthest things from getting fked up or used for recreational purposes. It is serious shit and requires planning and dedication.

I can't wait to go back to Peru and do more work on myself with medicine. I have seen myself and many lead more productive enjoyable lives thanks to these medicines.

You don't want to go doing these with someone who is not experienced and preferably a trusted Shaman.

NickCR- are you in costa rica? I spend a lot of time in Nicaragua...about 8-9 months out of the year.

Psychedelic Guide by Timothy Leary and Richard Alpert based on Tibetan Book of the Dead. _ i have not read this but most serious plant medicine people don't respect Leary...He gave them a bad name and was part of the reason these substances were not studied sufficiently and thus sent to schedule 1. Leary was into LSD which is a way different experience and not as "true" as pure plant medicine, but he fked it up for the whole group of them. Leary is not regarded highly in the natural plant medicine healing folk.

I will do that for sure. Be a couple years at least before I'd be able to get down there, but it's on my list of things to do. And yeah, nothing recreational about DMT.

Where to you live when you're in Nicaragua? I was down there last year for a month and I loved it. Great people, and interesting recent history.
