I mean we put up with eminem only becsuse he had fucked up white albino hair and I thought he would end up in a high speed chase in a shoot out with cops.

you're just off on that. i'm not a big hiphop fan, but eminem brought a different construction to his lyrics that made everyone in the industry do a double take... you never heard anyone rhyming every 3rd word or dual-rhyming words throughout an entire phrasing before eminem...

i think the guy is pretty much a jackass outside the studio, but he got the respect of the industry based on his skill... didn't have much to do with his hair.

lol?

his rap persona that he puts on is completely different from his real persona. he's a quiet chill as fuck dude who would do nothing but watch tv all day long and write song lyrics.

seems like people are only hating on rap because theyre afraid of black people. rapping takes creative wordsmith skills, yadada mean

Don't know about the rhyme thing, but the first time I heard Eminem I thought it was a new Beastie Boys track or spoof. Beastie Boys sound and look a lot like Eminem or it's probably the other way around.

this is a pretty simplistic analysis (and really old), but this gets at the heart of what i was talking about:

An Analysis of Eminem's Lyrical Style on Relapse

Eminem; also known as Slim Shady or Marshall Mathers released his first album in four years and entitled it Relapse; it is lyrically superior to his previous records.

Eminem Releases "Relapse" and Shows the World he has Changed:

The latest artistic installment in Eminem’s musical career “Relapse” was released on March 5th 2009; four year’s after his previous release. Mathers’ evolution as a lyricist and writer becomes fully apparent in the new album which is unique from his previous installments.
Instead of hearing Eminem’s familiar angry and frustrated lyrics delivered with a vengeful attitude, the CD assumes a more solemn and thoughtful tone. Two songs on the album boast a catchy beat with lyrics to match (for radio circulation) and there are several tracks that concentrate on similar subject matter as in his previous albums.
Songs such as: Same Song & Dance, We Made You, Medicine Ball and Bagpipes from Baghdad characteristically “dis” and threaten various celebrities while joking about violence and substance abuse. However, there are songs that confront issues that the artist did not discuss in his previous albums; including his battle with drug addiction, depression, and feelings of inadequacy. Whatever the subject matter, all of Eminem’s new tracks are executed in a vastly more mature and complex manner than is heard on his previous albums.
Several Examples of Slim Shady's Lyrical Devices; How They are Used and How They Have Evolved:

Many of Mathers’ earlier tracks are recognized by his extensive use of perfect and end rhyme (example: true and blue) and verses laden with consonant rhyme (example: limp and lump).
However, in his latest songs, Mathers pushes his lyrics to new height by employing multiple rhyme; where words with several syllables are rhymed together (example: generate and venerate). He also uses internal rhyme to propel his lyrical narrative to the height of poetic prominence. The following excerpt from the first verse of his song 3am illustrates the brilliance of Eminem's poetry and his ability to incorporate several types of rhyme seamlessly:

“Your walkin’ down a horror corridor
It's almost four in the mornin’
And your in a
Nightmare
It's horrible
Right there's the coroner
Waitin’ for you
To turn the corner
So he can corner ya
Your a goner
He's on-ta ya
Out the corner of his cornea
He just saw you run
All you want is to rest
Cause you can't run anymore
Your done”

Lyrics from the song 3AM written by Marshall Mathers
One cannot accurately articulate the word play and rhyme scheme’s that Mathers is able to flawlessly execute in his music. Simply reading the words on paper does not do his creative ability justice.
A significant amount of Mathers lyrical genius is only appreciated when listened to. Within each track, he delivers an intricate and virtually faultless piece of spoken poetry that is both inspiring and unsettling in its untouchable composition.

Lol like Nashville doesn't recycle the same shit over and over

LOL, one of my close friend's uncle is a Nashville musician/songwriter ("Long Time Gone" - Dixie Chicks,"We've Got Nothing But Love to Prove" - Faith Hill,Garth Brooks : When There's No One Around etc...).
On his first album he put together this piece, singing about the type of music that he was constantly being expected to write:
Title OF The Song

My friend and I used to listen to a copy of this album on tape, before it was released, over and over (ahhh, memories), which always seemed to bring up discussions on how unmusical the music industry could really be. As for my friend, he had a real shot at living the life, as he was an extremely talented drummer ( multiple full-ride music scholarship opportunities etc.. ), to be in the industry, but somehow I have always felt that the truths that he learned from his uncle kept him from really ever stepping over into it as a career.

Maybe for your friend, these might some be some good points to ponder, in other words, how much musical integrity are you willing to give up, so that albums sell...?

On the other hand, one of my favorites from that album:

ended up on [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cco-pCb0klU"]Justified[/ame]
...so you never know.

man, i hate seeing shit like this. i watched all the links, and that guy kicks ass. it sucks that nashville is a taylor swift world, but it is. its a damned shame.

nashville can't be helped, but its cool to see some emerging music like the milk carton kids and lake street dive making it on the pop front so we aren't (absolutely) forced to listen to miley jackass & kanye whogivesafuck.

@drave

relapse was a lyrically good album. too depressing of an album though (case in point: Beautiful).

imo one of his best lyrical songs is rock bottom from his slim shady lp album.

I feel like I'm walking a tight rope, without a circus net
I'm popping percocets, I'm a nervous wreck
I deserve respect; but I work a sweat for this worthless check
Bout to burst this tech, at somebody to reverse this debt
Minimum wage got my adrenaline caged
Full of venom and rage
Especially when I'm engaged
And my daughter's down to her last diaper
That's got my ass hyper
I pray that god answers, maybe I'll ask nicer
Watching ballers while they flossing in their pathfinders
These overnight stars becoming autograph signers
We all long to blow up and leave the past behind us
Along with the small fry's and average half pinters
While player haters turn bitch like they have vaginas
Cause we see them dollar signs and let the cash blind us
Money will brainwash you and leave your ass mindless
Snakes slither in the grass spineless

Since you guys brought it up, I remember watching this video about rhyme structure in songwriting and why Eminem is one of the most impressive lyricists in the business. A great breakdown.

Pretty mediocre in my opinion. No offense to the guy meant, but theres thousands of other people who can do this a lot better who are dedicated to getting a record deal - and struggle to get one.

Personal opinion aside, In such a saturated market you need to stand out / do something special (or have the right friends in the right places) , I think this guy will need to up his game and add something unique if he wants to get noticed and taken seriously.

Neckbeards beware!

Roman just covered a Miley Cryus song... and it didn't completely and utterly suck.

Seems ok and he is young so there is a long road...and even if he doesn't "make it" whatever that means...he should have a great ride along the way.
As a person who used to record/"produce" local bands in my bedroom when I was younger I would say ditch the "auto tune." effect.
It sucks the life out of the music.
