I'm working on 2 projects right now that involve sourcing quality products from China and Japan cheaply and creating the branding around them to launch them as product lines in the North American market.

Throughout this process I've been dealing with the overseas wholesaler, shipping broker, customs broker, warehouses, and retail brokers and distributors. It is alot of relationships to manage and I am always concered I am getting ripped off since I have nothing to compare too.

I did some research online and I figured out I need to gain more knowledge in supply-chain management. I started looking for some books/online programs to help me get a broad overview of all facets of the process from negotiating the product from the overseas supplier to getting it onto the shelf of your local store. Long story short I stumbled upon the Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) program. They have a learning package which includes some workbooks and online material. After working through it at your own pace you can take the online test to gain your official CSCP designation.

The learning package costs about $1200 and to take the test is another $700. I figured if I'm going to learn the material anyway, I may as well take the test and get the designation. I think it will take me less than a month to finish the workbooks in my spare time. Even though I never plan on working for anybody else, I think it could be handy to have on my resume if I ever have to pitch investors or venture capitalists for another project down the line.

What do you guys think? Does anyone here have this designation or something similiar?

If u want to avoid getting ripped off use that $1200 and fly to china. Before you get there hire a local Agent to take you to the factory and help you negotiate the deal. No book or piece of paper will stop you from getting fucked in the ass without a reach around. The only thing that will is experience

A client importing from Somalia & India told me pretty much the same thing of his experience setting up his supply lines.
