Anybody own a Rug Doctor?

Plain and simple hitting children is child abuse. You can discipline without hitting and you can even be strict without hitting.

It's quite simply called laying down the law and following through with consequences. Parents mess up when they don't follow through. example: You stayed out 10 mins past your curfew, so tomorrow you will go out 10 minutes later to play with your friends than you usually do. And then when it comes time you make sure and follow through with the consequences. Because that's what life is, a series of consequences for the decisions you make.

Actually it's been my experience that the worst children are the ones that get hit. I was at the pool the other day gawking at these parents who kept smacking there kids and these kids were TERRIBLE they would get hit and then immediately do what they were just told not to do and they would get hit again. Then they would do something even worse like turn around and hit a sibling. Violence begets violence. And hitting children is not only pathetic for obvious reasons but it shows an extreme laziness on your part with a need for instant gratification.

What about shaking the shit out of them every once in a while? In all seriousness my sisters and I got hit a LOT as kids... by our parents... by our family....even by our family friends. It's kind of a normal thing amongst kids whose parents are from the 3rd world. That's history that I don't plan on repeating but I'll tell you what -- we had some clean ass walls & carpet ....

I didn't say it doesn't work. It's instant gratification, it works. I'm just saying, if there are other way to get the same results without hitting, why, as a parent that loves your child, would you want to hit them?

Btw I was spanked as a child too, this isn't really about how we were raised as kids. Did I turn out fine? Sure, I'm certainly not hovering in a corner somewhere. But I often wondered if the discipline had been different (not just the hitting, but the forms of punishment ) and perhaps there had been open dialogue (in a respectful way of course) if things about me and my own relationships would have been different.

Sorry Mike, to derail the thread...We really are interested in finding out ways to get the carpet cleaned. I'm going to have hubby study the responses with me later. Carpet is just gross period.

Keep the fuckers in line with brutal force, they'll never amount to anything if they don't learn from a young age to fear authority.

I lol'd pretty hard at that.

A buddy of mine painted his kids' room with blackboard paint so they can go to town on the walls in their own room. It's a really cool idea.

And yes, sorry to derail the thread, got way off on a tangent there.

While we don't have any kids we do have pets, and I personally would consider removing all carpets from a house with kids and going with tile and hardwood. Besides being easier to keep clean, it's also better if anyone in your family suffers from allergies.

You can do area rugs in living spaces which can be taken up and sent for cleaning once or twice a year.

I'm pretty sure you're kidding about this, at least I hope so because I LOL'd.

Anywhooooooo.........

Parenting topic aside (it's getting a little to heated) Thanks for all the ideas on cleaning the carpets. I'm going to go back to my pussy parenting and clean up the mess.

BTW, the dog is the cleanest animal in the house. Hell, I'm messier than the dog...
