Anyone Ever Get Blurry Vision After Staring at the Computer ?

If you haven't already, move your workstation so that you're facing a window. extremely worth it. When you pause to think, you'll naturally look out.

If you can, get a window that looks out to something natural, you win more.

I actually moved to new place just to be able see trees as I "work". Makes all the difference.

I was told by my Eye Doc to follow the 20/20/20 rule while at the computer.

Every 20 minutes look away from the screen to something at least 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds before looking back at the computer.

GUNNAR glasses, or f.lux.

Regardless of your choice, you will have to put up with staring at an unpleasant orange screen all day from now on.

Oh man, I loved my Gunnar glasses. Bought them when they came out, but had to stop using them when I switched to a large multiscreen setup, made me nauseated.

I'm no optician but I sometimes notice similar affects when working from my desktop for a few hours and then using my smaller phone which requires a different focus.

Intuitively it feels like my eyes remain adjusted to looking at a screen even after I'm no longer looking at a screen hence the blurryness which occurs.

The regular breaks and looking out of the window far away are good advice.

I told my optician about working long hours on a computer, and she pretty much said the same thing. Just focus on something far away every 20 minutes and you will never have issues.

Gunnar glasses are AMAZING.

I honestly cannot recommend them enough. Got a pair last winter because I was suffering from intense eye strain and massive headaches after long nights working.

They definitely reduce eye strain and make staring a monitor much more comfortable. You get used to the tint, trust me. After a few days, it's a complete nonissue.

I was skeptical at first, but they WORK. Love my gunnars.

Every now and then. But only when I have been in the dark the whole day and been on the screen for like 10+ hours.

Just sleep it off....stop looking at the screen, go out, exercise.

you will wear glasses pretty soon if you don't take breaks. That's like the first sign..

There's no evidence that looking at a computer screen for long periods of time damages your vision or will cause you to have to wear glasses. That is just some bullshit your mother might say, but has no basis in reality at all. Fatigued eyes yes, damaged eyes no.

If you start getting blurry when looking at the screen, it means you need to stop and rest your eyes. Palming your eyes works well to rest them, and then look at far distances. If you are blurry, palm your eyes for at least 10 minutes or more if you need to. Warm your palms by rubbing then do the palming.

You should rest regularly from looking at the screen, ideally look away every ten minutes and rest after each 50 minute session. I use this free app that alerts me to each mini break:

Dejal - Time Out

Just installed Flux and I'm somewhat confused.
The screen is piss yellow and looks like shit. Somehow makes me want to look away from the screen after 2 minutes. I mean the software is pretty much straight forward, not much you can do wrong there, but how are you guys using it? Are you getting used to it after a few hours / days?

I've been using it since this thread opened and switched the setting to florescent which isn't quite as orangey. Definitely better than not using flux.

You need to make a routine to take a break every 25 minutes for about 5 minutes.

After doing this for about 2 hours, take a 30 min break.

Also, looking away at a picture that is far away from you ( like high on a far wall ) will help every so often.

That tool is for the mac. Do you have any other tool for windows ?

I used flux for a few weeks, I like the idea, but as someone who works with graphics for a portion of the day I didn't get on with it. Also, if you have a laptop and external screen and use both, you'll find the disparity (that you fixed) between the brightness/colour is exaggerated when it's +/-.

Probably good for those with a single screen, or those with multiple IPS screens, who don't spend much time working with graphics.
