Anyone ever have surgery?

Got referred to the surgeon yesterday by the neurologist and they had an opening today so I go in an hour for consultation.

Average cost is $50,000 but considering this is Seattle it's probably much higher, 1 week hospital stay afterward is typical.

Do you have insurance? If not, you should fly to a better country to get the surgery done. Will save you lots of $.

Lots of major surgery here.

Heart defect repair at around age 2. Then 13-years ago I had my first pacemaker/ICD implanted, now I'm on my second one (first one lasted 10 years).

Not fun, and VERY expensive.

Got the bill in the mail for my 2nd pacer/ICD and before insurance it was $79,000. Keep in mind that the leads were not changed. This was a simple open me up over the old scar, remove the current unit and attach a new one to the leads. I was only out for about 30 minutes and went home the next morning (surgery was afternoon). Almost $50,000 of the $79,000 was the new device. So, excluding the device cost, it still ran about $1,000 per minute of actual surgery time.

I was told my leads would last about 15-years. Well, I'm almost to year 14, so best case they last a few more years and then I need them replaced. This is when it gets real fun, as the leads being there for so long scar tissue attaches to them, so they go in there with a laser to remove them. It's a bit risky, but it has to be done. Can't wait.
 
I had a minor surgery in my left shoulder only local anaesthesia, it hurt like hell and the surgeon was constantly commenting how much muscle they're cutting out and how exposed my veins are. It was groce.
Then the nurse's finger somehow slipped into that mess and when she brought her hand close to my face I saw a piece of meat hanging down from her index finger. The funniest part was my surgeon was kinda young and had a patient with a strange growth after me. So an elder surgeon strolls by and my surgeon is like "Hey I got someone with a weird ass looking growth after this, will you take a look at it?" and the grandpa surgeon was like "Just cut it off if you don't know what it is". But yeah it was all covered by insurance you know European socialist country and all.
 
Had 2 eye surgeries, one when I was 3, I ran in to a thorny bush and got a thorn in my left eye, one a few years later because the eye went all wonky. Both free :) I still need a 3rd operation to replace the lens because it's damaged.

lol I had an MRI a week ago and almost passed out from sitting there with an IV in my arm for the contrast. I had to lay down in the changing room with my feet up for a while before going in. I can't do stuff when conscious.

@Jman, that sucks having equipment inside you. And yeah, the bills, I don't even open them anymore. I pay my mortgage and important shit and have some payment plans for a few places. $80k bill, are they trying to give you a heart attack? hehe
 
I got a $2k ambulamps bills for taking a 5 minute ride to the hospital when I dislocated my shoulder dunkin a basketball

Shoulda just walked lmao

I swear to god I see someone doing something as stupid looking as this at the gym every single day and I just want to fucking toss a 45 pound plate discuss style into their heads.

99% of people have no idea what they're doing at the gym.

I'm not a surgeon but I'm trying to get into health niche and would like to give it a try.

It's a win-win situation for both of us.

There has to be a way to make money off this crap some how.

Edit: I found out a place I can import 5,000 pace makes for 1k each. Who wants to be a guinea pig?

Did you read the article about the lady (several months ago) who had almost 100k in bills for getting scorpion anti venom in arizona which costs a few hundred bucks in mexico, where it's made....

My gf had surgery on her ankle and the nurses were talking about the new "ergonomic" beds they got that "roll better" for a measly $35k each...

Ok, I will look into this as well. Edit: navy has contracts out paying 583 bucks a pop. Looks promising.

Fucking government has shitload of contracts out for pacemakers. They buy these bitches up like crazy. I have to file for a certain class of license that actually looks pretty easy to do.

Wonder if I can actually make this happen... lol.
