How much did it cost you out of pocket? Did your insurance cover any of it? I'm strongly considering it- looking for some experiences from people here

I looked into it, however after I started to hear how some people went blind (of course, that's a small percent...) I reconsidered.

Go for it. I had it done in Windsor, Canada by LasidMD (lasikmd.com) -- the lasers have been approved in Canada for longer than in the US, so the surgery was also cheaper ~2500 USD for both eyes.
I'm a year and a half out from the surgery now, and I have 20/15 vision with .5 diopters of astigmatism in both eyes (was 4+ before). Only minor irritation is my eyes do seem a little dry from time to time.
That said, I loved it, and would do it again in a heartbeat.

I had the simpler procedure (scalpel no laser) done in 1999 for around $1200 and still have better than 20/20 vision today (went from around 20/120 in each eye). My (now ex) wife had the laser version done for around $4000 total in 2000 as well and went from 20/400 to 20/20. That being 8 years ago prices are probably much cheaper now with all the competition.

i think if you go down to south america its much cheaper about $1200 or so...
and i believe you have to be minimum 25 to consider it (atleast thats what my doctor told me)

I actually had it done in NY about a year ago. I paid for it out of pocket 100%.
My results... I am mixed.
I think overall it was a good thing that I had it done, however I do have a few issues that affect my vision now. For every 100 successes there are a few that are not. I consider myself one of the few.
I would make sure you are 100% an ideal candidate. I went thru all the tests and it was said I was an ideal candidate ...But honestly, I have some doubts at this point as to whether or not I was "ideal"

I‘m not religious...but maybe have "found God" for about 30 seconds after walking out of that chair. I was completely blind before and can now see 20/15.
I went to one of the better doctors in NJ. He is so good that 1/2 of his business is actually fixing other doctors screw-ups. My insurance didn’t cover it and they were asking around $6,500. I negotiated to around $5,000 I believe.
My only advise is don’t go cheap. These are your eyes you are messing with here. Get someone who knows what they are doing and has been doing it for awhile with a good track record.
The only side effect I have is my eyes sometimes get dry and I need eye drops once a day, but with contacts I had to do this anyway

I was under the impression it costs $1k-$1.5k per eye but yeah, no need to look for a bargain with something as important as your vision.
Funny I have an appointment next week for a consultation. I am not sure what the price is but I read somewhere not many pay the cheap $$$ amount they advertise in the flyers.
I know 3 people who swear by it - only thing that got me was when I called to make an appointment the woman said I will need to wear reading glasses after the op! Thats because I am coming up to 40.

To be honest I have not spent the time to read them fully. I took my wife to see a vision educator when she was having problems during/after pregnancy. The woman was great, but my wife had cataract so it was not going to work for her. I do believe it works see Association of Vision Educators (if you want to attend a class) its that I have been lazy on this. Maybe I should try it before paying out.
The theory is that we do not use our peripheral vision, we stare at the TV, computer & a head when driving so you learn to exercise your eyes using peripheral exercises & a technique called palming where you cover your eyes with the inside of your palms. This recharges/relaxes tired eyes and gives you total darkness. Theres more to it I will see if I can find an ebook about it
i had a buddy do it ...worked out perfect for him..no complaints....buddies mom though who had it done, screwed up her vision a bit. She now needs glasses to read books as before she didnt. She can see far now though...like superman.
