So the company owned by Sergey Brin's wife, 23 and me, is advertising on TV a lot lately. They provide DNA tests for $199 and tell you where your DNA comes from and the types of diseases you most likely will have. :uhoh2:

I'm curious about ancestry, but not sure if I WANT to know the diseases running around in my DNA... anybody did it?

It's not just 23 and me, there are tons of other companies offering these types of DNA tests worldwide. Some of the biggest ones are in Switzerland.

My wife did it. The results they give you are pretty cool. They give you a map of where your genetic origins are from and they will point you towards people that are related to you that have done the test as well.

Did she go through 23andme? I just found out that even National Geographic now offer these tests for the same price: Geno 2.0 - DNA Ancestry Kit | National Geographic Store

Yes, 23andMe. A few of my friends have done it to and have been pretty happy. I cant help but think that, with the relationship to google, that the DNA info will somehow eventually make their way into Googles search results.

Well, quite a few terminal illnesses skip a generation, so what did your grand parents get? I have diabetes at the top of my list, then good ole cancer, with a small chance of lou gehrig's disease thrown in.

On my mom's side, clean bill of health. On my dad's side, every single deadly disease you can think of: cancer, heart disease, diabetes, leukemia, etc...

Minority Report, on the way!

When the big G said they want to gather ALL of the world's info, I didn't think they meant our DNA as well.

You don't need to pay anyone for that DNA test. You can trace your gene back to Africa, that first old black woman. Now to find out why we have so many different colors of humans, You can send me the fee for the DNA test for the correct and historical answer.
