This dude could be the next Bob Dillan if he wanted to. Best new music I've heard in quite awhile (even though his first album came out last year.)

Are you joking? He's fucking terrible. He's manufactured beyond belief - consciously aping production values of the 60s does not make you Dylan. He doesn't even write all of his own songs. You've been marketed a fraud. Notice the decline in guitar bands post "indie"? Wouldn't it be great if there was a young songwriter who played guitar and wrote PROPER songs that meant something unlike pop music today...WISE UP...have you even listened to his awful lyrics, what's Dylanesque about them? NOTHING.

Note: This isn't really about him vs Dylan. It's more about the fact you've swallowed his whole act hook, like and sinker. Do you like Ed Sheeran as well?

Yea seems like everyone wants to call him the next Dylan. But Bob Dylan wasn't Bob Dylan at his age, he was the next Woody Guthrie.

Let's let him release a couple more albums before we anoint him the greatest lyricist of this generation. We all want to jump on what's new and fresh, he has talent but he is a long fucking way from being the next Dylan.

Of course they are putting him through some tape saturation plugins. That's what I'd have done too.

Of course they are using the old school british preamps and mixing style. That's what I'd do too.

Like designing a website. Of course you put your logo in the header. Those are obvious design choices. Of course you use complimentary colors and what not. that doesn't make your website a fraud. It just gives it a nice sheen on top of it's functionality

It's not so much that this is a more clever product of the cookie cutter pop industry music machine. It's just that the music machine knows what choices to make to carve out a niche for someone. This is like micro-niche-site music. Take the old and make it new, jump in where there's a hole and fill it, cash out like a bowse.

Ok, I didn't know he had help writing those songs. That was kind of a bummer to find out.

I still think the music is good though and at least somebody is trying to bring back folk music to some extent. Plus, the lyrics sound like they're coming from somewhere real.

If he's so fucking terrible, tell me other acts that's putting out songs this good and writes their own music because I'm not able to find any.
 
As a Brit, I simply cannot accept that he has been compared to Bob Dylan in the press, it is a travesty. Dylan was something out of this world, this guy... no.

Ya for sure he is cleaned up with a greasy production. But remember he is young he won't be the next Freewheelin Dylan but he has some chops and a lot of room to grow.
Too early to tell I agree, and bummer he doesn't write all his songs.
I do agree his voice is coming from somewhere real hopefully he finds something that is all him.

I'm not saying the songs are terrible or the worst in the world. It's solid pop music. I honestly don't listen to enough music or "new" music to be able to comment on that one. I will say though that the fact that you think the music scene is currently dead and lacking "soul" outlines that you are exactly the target market of Jake Bugg's music. :)
