If so, which model and how is your experience so far? Because I am thinking of purchasing a x201 model for traveling as I find my 15 MBP is a little too delicate for traveling. Not to mention I am not longer an apple trend whore.

P.S. Please don't give me BS on how thinkpads lost it's quality due to lenovos acquisition, I don't care.

I actually just got one today! Funny seeing a thread about it here..

I bought an x60s for pocket change. Weighs about 3lbs, battery lasts 8 hours [allegedly], made from magnesium/titanium/khorium or something like that, keyboard is spill resistant and my favorite feature is the onboard Apple fanboy repellant.

Looks like it'll be a little hot if I keep it in my lap, though.

My ThinkPad T series (bought during the IBM to Lenovo transition) was the longest living laptop I've ever owned. It made it 3.5 years, vs an average of 2 (Dell, Apple, HP were the others I owned)

Definitely a sturdy built machine. I'm thinking about getting a ThinkPad Edge now.

got mine at the end of 2008, it's sweet - no problems, not sure what model it is, was one of the top ones at the time... get one.

2-3.5 years?

Every laptop I have ever owned still runs, Dell from 1995, Toshiba from 2004, and my Lenovo from 2008... don't see how a laptop could only last 2 years, you must not take care of them.

I just got one of the Ideapad 460s about two weeks ago. I'm happy with it so far, a whole lot lighter, quieter, and cooler than my previous HP and it seems to have good build quality.

Got a T400 in mid 2008. It's still running strong. It's sturdy as fuck too, I've dropped this fucker so many times. I'm one of those guys who doesn't like having to "be careful" with his purchases. The keyboard is awesome, I can't even stand standalone keyboards anymore.

The only thing that gets to me is the weight (applies mostly to T series with steel roll cage). After wearing this on my back everyday, added with all the other shit I carry, i do kind of wish I got something lighter.

If you do end up getting a thinkpad, make sure you look around for the SPP/EPP codes. Lenovo doesn't bother verifying if you're an actual shareholder/employee. The best is when they have special promotions (almost every month) just for the SPP/EPP sites.

I've been working with T61p for 2 years now and I wouldn't change it for anything else. Love the red trackpoint! The only thing is it's rather heavy compared to other laptops as some people above pointed out.

I just bought a new HP for xmas for I am pretty pissed they thought it would be a good idea to change how a touchpad functions

Think i'll check out lenovo

T40 -> T61 -> T510 have been using lenovo since i got my first paycheck. Built like a tank, looks professional (can't stand those laptops with shiny shell..they just look like toy).

T40 was still made by IBM i believe...then the Chinese took over...quality is still the same, price got a lot cheap

I use a T61P and have been for 4 years now. It's time for a replacement just because I want something faster but I have to say IBM laptops are workhorses. This is the first IBM laptop I have owned and besides the fan on the heat sink requiring a blow out with the compressed air every couple months I have had ZERO problems with it.

It wasn't cheap though... I think I slapped down $3,300 for this bad boy. Definitely worth it though... Like I said ZERO problems!

Y730 (17 inch)- perhaps the worst quality computer ive ever owned. Switched to a mac within 3 months. The performance is fine but the hardware is low quality and felt like it was falling apart. The hdd failed within 2 months of purchasing. I even got an employee discount from a friend, still not worth it!

Have T61P - amazing machine. It's almost 3 years old and still performs well. Upgradeable to 8 GB of RAM (came with 4 GB), HDD can be upgraded or even replaced with SSDs. Both on my todo list :) Reason I am saying this is because many laptops are not upgradeable at all. But ThinkPads are well though tout in this regard.

On top of that, it allows for 2 screens (1 HDMI, and RGA) with a docking station.

It's durable and rugged. I dropped it a few times and no problems so far. Battery lasted me 2.5 years before I had to replace it. Never overheated.

So far didn't have a single problem.

Cons:

1) Lenovo software that comes bundled is kinda bloated crap. But that's pretty much applicable to most of the manufacturer's software that I've seen. I simply didn't install it when I upgraded from XP to 7.

2) If you have bad vision, depending on the model, the resolution might be so high that you will not be able to see anything. But to fix that, you can fix up Windows settings to make things appear bigger.

i travel with a 15' mbp and its solid... except the time i dropped a speaker on it and killed the hdd
