Anyone here use Lenovo Thinkpads?

Don't you guys find the MBP 15 a little too large for traveling?

The best setup would be a dual screen desktop at home/office and a small light portable for traveling.

get the 13inch mbp for traveling... i just got one.. frankie has one... just get it... triplets!

I find 13" ones too small to work on, so the 15" is ideal for me.

You have more than enough space to use it on the plane / train imo. Then when your at the hotel your fine.

Plus, watching a movie on a 13" would suck :p Just don't get a 11" anything :p

I might just binge eventually and get the 12 inch lenovo thinkpad x201.. The resolution on the 12 incher is just a little lower than the 15 inch mbp excluding the size.

If so, which model and how is your experience so far? Because I am thinking of purchasing a x201 model for traveling as I find my 15 MBP is a little too delicate for traveling. Not to mention I am not longer an apple trend whore.

P.S. Please don't give me BS on how thinkpads lost it's quality due to lenovos acquisition, I don't care.

I bought a T410 about 5-6 months ago. The ridiculous hype for the build quality has proven true, as it has been dropped a few times from fairly large heights. It's very easy to upgrade the hard drive as well as the RAM, keyboard is great etc. etc.

The only problem I'm having is surprisingly low battery life with the 9 cell battery. I'm getting ~4 hours on a 9 cell battery with a conservative power plan when I should be getting 6-8+ hours. I'm just waiting for a time when I can go without the laptop for a few days to send it in.

That is pretty bad considering lenovo is claiming 11 hours on their site lol... Is this t410 an i5 or i7?

Claims are always bullshit. They rely on all "extras" (Wi-fi, bluetooth, screen brigthness, CPU Boost) being off.

I picked the i5 for the sole reason of less power consumption, hence more battery life. I also chose integrated graphics for this reason, and because the workstation level Nvidia card wasn't a drastic improvement. I've been told 7-9 hours with wi-fi on. We'll see when I have time to send it in.

I guess I will stay with MBP for the time being... Or even downgrade to a MBP 13.

It's durable and rugged. I dropped it a few times and no problems so far. Battery lasted me 2.5 years before I had to replace it. Never overheated.

I am surprised you have not had the overheating problem. I own a T61P widescreen and the Wife has a T61P and they both overheat like a mofo. I couldn't understand why this was happening and a couple times I sent them back to IBM. When I got them back they would end up overheating again a few months later.

Finally I took the damn thing apart and blew out the heatsink with some canned air and sure enough that did the trick. The heatsinks on these are a bad design but other than that this laptop is a friggin workhorse. I have never had a laptop that lasted so damn long before. Usually something is broken by now and I am tossing it in the garbage.

Odd. I have a new X201 Tablet and it is very sweet. Very fast. Of course I wiped the drive and put in a barebones install of Win 7 Pro and upgraded the memory to 8GB.

I also have a Thinkpad W700 that I bought new off the Lenovo Outlet. Very beefy laptop and I plan on switching to it from a desktop once I can organize all my crap (porn).

The only thing I like about Macbooks over Thinkpads is the backlit keyboard is very handy.

Did tech suppost for a range of thinkpads for a couple of years. Good machines. in the scale of things they are very reliable... would recommend dell xps laptops though.

Though and sturdy machines but ugly as sin. They look the same as they did 15 years ago and they were ugly even back then. I'd just assume get a nice HP enterprise class laptop and take care of it. The quality of the casing and overall sturdiness is less, but I don't really care. I take good care of my stuff. If you want a nice sturdy laptop that's not fucking ugly, go with this:

HP EliteBook 8740w Mobile Workstation Small & Medium Business

But in all honesty, I'll go with an 18.4" Toshiba Qosimo any day. I can't stand tiny ass screens.
