Anyone watch soccer?

Most people don't even know the name of their states soccer team (or that they even have one). I didn't know the name of LA's team until yesterday. My dad is a Brit, obsessed with the Premiership, and I still can't watch the games even though I grew up with it. Maybe if England makes the World Cup finals, but that's it.

I bet any media coverage he gets will be about red carpet events and gossip, not about the soccer. No one is going to care that LA beat Chicago in a game. He'll sell a few more game tickets and shirts but it's not going to live up to this hype:

Is Beckham the best soccer player? No, but I would not want to be a keeper on the other end of a free kick with him. That however is not why MJ made $36 million a year or why Real became the wealthiest soccer team when Beckham was bought. If it was not a business it would not be called Professional so it is hard to see how someone who can not turn around and not make the news, someone who sells more shit to more people than anyone else in the world would not be worth the money. and if you can follow this post you too are worth $250million just for being able to keep up!

I hope he does a better job than PELE (of all people) in getting Americans more excited about soccer. Pele joined a New York team in the 70s. Not much change in US popular perceptions of "the Beautiful Game."

Except that he sold out every stadium he went to basically. Giant stadium sold out nearly every game while he was playing. But you are right, it was only temporary success and ultimately led to the demise of the NASL.

I play/played DI soccer. Would be fun to play against the guy in the MLS. My friend is the goalie for FC Dallas.
