(Reuters) - Brand owners will soon be able to operate their own parts of the Web -- such as .apple, .coke or .marlboro -- if the biggest shake-up yet in how Internet domains are awarded is approved.

It looks like ICANN will be voting on this Monday. Will only be $180.000 to register your brand.

Not sure if that's quite right. I think it's only meant for brands / trademarks and are approved on a case-by-case basis. I don't think some millionaire can just come in, and say, "great! I'll take .travel, .world, .sex, .porn, .business, .news, .game, and .store, thank you!"

Makes sense for TradeMarks, but surely search engines shouldn't skew their results based on a '.brand' TLD?

If they do go down that path, I wander... can I create my own Trademark & Brand called 'sex1' ?! Lol, might cost $200k, but I can see many new battles commencing!
