As gas prices creep above $4 a gallon, what are you thinking?

I think we need to suck it up. I was just in Poland a few weeks ago and gas is about $2 a liter. On average people make half as much if not less than you would make in North America at the same job and they survive.

Just buy a smaller car and you're good to go. If you can afford a nice big SUV, hummer or whatever then you can afford the gas. If not then stop pretending, stop bitching and sell the damn thing.

You REALLY want gas prices to come down? Tell congress to pass a law that forbids banks from leveraging debt in order to trade commodities. You'll see $40 knocked off within a month, with the fucked up mortgage market banks can't make money selling their toxic waste so they flood to the futures market.

Actually I imagine the Tesla would cost a shitload of electricity to charge...so unless it runs smooth for 500,000 miles it probably wouldn't be worth the investment.

Someone prove me wrong so I can go buy one...please. They look so badass.

135mpg equivalent, just go buy one :)

only thing I'd be worried about is the battery...probably expensive as fuck to replace :/

So it costs folks a couple more bucks to fill up their tank? Who cares. We'll complain if it's 4.00/gal, we'll complain if it's 5.00/gal, we'll complain if it's 6.00/gal.

We should stop focusing on 'gas prices' and start focusing on alternative energy sources.

With as much advancement as we've had in every industry - health care, information technology, etc., the automotive industry has barely budged in 75+ years. It's time to move away from oil.

I got a question to your Europeans who tell us Americans to STFU because you're already paying $5-8 a gallon or whatever it is you pay.

Have you guys seen a spike in gas prices? Or is it just the USA?

Lets just hope we hear a little more from these guys in the next administration: Department of Energy - Homepage

Nope. When I was in Poland last year gas was the same price as it is today. Interesting eh?

Oil is sold in US Dollars. Europeans are getting a lot more dollars for their currencies right now which can explain that. Oil prices can go up in USD and get more expensive for Americans, but stay the same price or even get cheaper at the same time for Europeans because of the decline of the US Dollar.

100 Euros was the same as $100 USD in 2002. Today 100 Euros buy $158 USD.

No Euro in Poland yet. Though you make a good point. Even the Polisy zloty, a year ago I got about 2.45+ (actual was about 2.60) of it for 1 CAD, now I got about 2.12 (actual is about 2.17) or so.

I'm thinking about getting a big ass V8 4x4 truck. They can barely sell these things these days, so they're becoming dirt ass cheap. Saving $10,000 will make up for the 10MPG drop.

25mpg over 100,000 miles at $4 a gallon = $16,000

15mpg over 100,000 miles at $4 a gallon = $26,667

Getting more pussy because I don't drive a pussy ass car- definitely worth $667.

Yeah, I don't know any chicks that are impressed by SUVs... They're "family" cars...

Australian prices are fucking irritating. We have two major companies that do the fuel, and then rebrand or sell to independents. So basically, they charge whatever the hell they like.
I shit you not, between a Wednesday morning and afternoon, you can see a $0.30/liter price hike some weeks, and then they'll easy it down $0.285 over the next 7 days, and slowly add to the cost like that until the Government holds another "inquiry".

My favourite little lie was the $0.04/liter discount dockets from the supermarkets.
You've got to spend $30+ to get one (750 liters to break even, docket maximum is 150L and doesn't cover diesel. Standard car petrol tank: 65L inc emergency reserve). The WEEK those were introduced, there was a $0.10 hike in the price of petrol at the participating outlets...

Okay, 58% raise... gas prices went from what to what in that time in the USA?
Gas in May 2002: $1.40
Gas in May 2008: $3.99

Okay... so who wants help me w/ my math? i'm sure that isn't 58%...

Just so i can post 3 times in a row... I am predicting we will see $1.75 at the gas pump within 12 months! I will link to this thread when it happens and you will all fear my skills of seeing into the future.
