Got this notice late last night:

We want to thank you for being clients of Volsh LLC this past year. It has been a great and rewarding experience, however we are saddened to announce that as of June 19th 2010 we will be closing our doors as a web hosting provider. As such, all of our clients have been acquired by Rosslo Internet Services in order to continue providing you a viable web hosting experience. No major changes will take place for you with the exceptions of IP's and Nameservers, other then that you will see no abnormalities on your part. A representative from Rosslo will be in contact with you within the next 24 hours to discuss this in further detail. Once again, we thank you for being apart of Volsh, it was truly an honor being your host.

Seems like a good opportunity for you hosting re-sellers and/or owners. Whip up a migration package and sell me something, STAT!
 


LOL - didn't their sales thread promise they were backed by a bunch of money and that they would never "sell" you to another provider or give you 10k or something?

Sorry to lazy to look.

(you would think after you got screwed by volsh for weeks that you just pony up and pay a few bucks more a month for a reliable host)
 
I use JaguarPC and they've been really good to me. Back when I had no clue what I was doing (and was trying to run a free host) they were very patient and gave support above and beyond what they were required too.

Even though that's an affiliate link you have to be a paying customer to use their affiliate program (and I am satisfied with them enough that I am buying a couple VPS's through them).
 
I'm getting a shit ton of PMs about this... (knew I would soon or later). Anyway, I'm setting up a new server and will be making a Volsh refugee post in a day or two (depends on how fast the datacenter gets things built).

This is something you want to make sure of, because you don't want to spend your time scaling and then experience the headache of transferring to another provider just because your host decided to close up shop.

Yeah I learned this when I bought a vps from a company that lived for about 7 days total rofl. At least I learned it in a fairly easy way now I stick with only companies that have been around and only really reliable ones for important sites.
 
You get what you pay for. I overpaid them $50 on an invoice credit that I didn't realize would just autopay my regular ammount. I contacted PayPal and they told me they shut down their paypal account and disassociated bank accounts with paypal. Now I have to contact James London himself to see if he will give me a refund. I requested this in a support ticket that was closed so I don't think they want to refund me lol.

Been with Jaguar for a while now. No complaints.
 
Too bad, yet another reason to shop around for a VPS. I thought he was a decent alternative to Zensix. :(
 
Oh. I actually did some coding for James, but I wasn't even aware he was in the hosting business. Anyway, I always choose big companies for my hosting. Preferably not the really big ones, because I like to have decent support. But they should at least have ads in magazines. Printed ones.
If you're looking for a server in the US I have heard good things about Linode - Xen VPS Hosting and Slicehost - VPS Hosting. Never used them myself, so I can't really recommend them, but I trust the people who did recommend them to me. No idea if they have some GUI like cpanel though, I think you'll need to be familiar with the command line.
 
I HATED the linode control panel...used their hosting for a month then canceled....And im not talking about cpanel, webmin, directadmin...i mean the vps control panel for reboots, and reinstall OS.
