Back to the American football is crap / Soccer is fantastic debate

Ignorant fucks don't seem to understand that football (the real football)... blah, blah, piffle, ptthhphphp, blah
Oh, you mean the sport that is referred to as "football" by 95% of the planet's population, which is the most popular sport in the whole world, followed religiously by billions of people? Who's ignorant?

instead it's the most mental and physical team sport ever created, even if that means that there's three hours of pause.

Actually rugby would be far more physically and mentally challenging, and HEY!, it's where you stole the idea from in the first place.

Sure the game is hard hitting, but players are well padded, and 15 seconds of exertion are repeatedly followed by two minutes of standing around, and they run set plays that require good memory, but don't require much spur of the moment thinking or creativity (though there are moments of brilliance, don't get me wrong).

Now try running for 90 minutes non stop with a clock that never shuts off, and with no time outs or commercial stoppages, etc. etc.

Ignorant fucks don't seem to understand that football (the real football) is 5% play and 95% strategy. Every second that isn't spent running a play is spent analyzing the perfect play. When you watch a game and see head shots of coaches or watch advertisements, in that same time there's at least ten guys in a sky box breaking down every possible play, running every possible statistic, considering every opposing team's options, basically strategizing a war.

Yeah, it may not be like other sports where you send eleven prancing faggots onto the field and expect them to do something impressive - instead it's the most mental and physical team sport ever created, even if that means that there's three hours of pause.

Yet you call it football when the players hold the ball :laughing-smiley-007

So there's more scoring in 11 minutes of play for one sport than in 90 minutes of the other sport? And you thought this fact would HELP your argument?

Let's see, recent American football scores...

4 touchdowns vs 2 touchdowns
2 touchdowns vs a fieldgoal
4 touchdowns vs a fieldgoal
2 touchdowns vs 2 touchdowns

... just cause there are a lot of points on the board doesn't mean there's a lot of scoring.

Recent Premier League football scores...

3-2
4-1
1-1
7-2

I don't see a lot of difference. Yes, there are also a handful of 0-0, 1-0, 2-0 games, but there are plenty of high scoring ones as well.

Why can't we all just agree that all sports but cricket suck. I'm sure sumit is with me. Give me a good 34 hour game of cricket anyday!

That's actually 36-37 seconds since it's a 40 second play clock ... but that number could actually be 10 seconds nearing halftime or regulation.

but don't require much spur of the moment thinking or creativity

Fatbat, I'd like to introduce you to Mr. Barry Sanders

Not his best highlight reel, but you get the point

Games I have been to:

Red Sox (Boston and in Chicago): drunkkkk
Patriots: Drunkkkk
Bruins: Drunkkkk
Real Madrid: Drunkkkkk
(and numerous college hockey games)

4 different sports, 4 cities, and 2 countries.

What does that all equal? Drunkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk.

and the funnest game was probably sitting next to the Italian club section at a Real Madrid/AC Milan match in October... back and forth with Milan pulling ahead with like 3 minutes remaining... buttt I have been to 3 Red Sox walk-off HR wins at Fenway.... tough call. I like them all.

I think the 'real' sport fans in this thread realize what sports is about. Hell, If the price is right I'd go to ANY NHL, MLB, ETC.. Game, just to go, eat junk, drink and have fun.

2. Invest more. Sports Betting and Fantasy Sports make the game 10x as fun for me.

3. Ok. Soccer Vs Football. Play: I'd rather play Soccer And Watch: Football. But Overall if your not a sports fan, or don't invest much into the game, like knowing the teams or players your probably not going to like watching (not playing) the game to much. I really didn't get into football until after I started playing Fantasy Football and Madden which taught me most about the game.

I don't understand this debate... both are respective sports. I happen to like American football more than any sport but the two don't even compare in terms of how they work. That's like comparing apples vs oranges. If you want to get technical in "viewing time" I would enjoy watching people play fuckin' marbles.

Rugby > soccer + football.. I tore my labrum and had to get 4 pins put in my shoulder after this last season and im still thinking about playing again this year. Its that badass

soccer is for pussies that dont want to get hurt

rugby is for dummys that think getting hurt is cool, hell cant you learn from the romans...put on a freekin helmet and chest shield and maybe you would be able to play your sport with out getting hurt.

in the NFL the pads help to avoid immediate injury but cause possibilty for long term concussion and contusion issues to the body. I hear of many retired NFL players that are on pain killers and are subject to a life of aches and pains every morning they wake up.

Bottom line is money, NFL on average get paid the most.

Professional Basketball is retarded. When a guy dunks the ball in a hyped out way he fails to realize he only got 2 points. Getting 2 points happens roughly 100 times a night. Whoopee shit you dunked.

When a guy blocks a ball and sends it 10 rows into the crowd and gets all hyped he fails to realize the other team still has possession. Why not palm/steal the ball instead?

Basketball is retarded!

You've obviously never watched a NFL game. Football is exciting, Soccer is boring.

I have and it was just like that description. Have you been to a 'soccer' game? It can be very intense, especially if, as someone else wrote, you're at an away game. The whole stadium hates you!!

Best sport of all is cricket! FIVE DAYS of sitting on the couch and drinking beer and you need three matches for a series. That's FIFTEEN days of drinking and watching great sport... and then a few more days for the one day matches and 20/20's...

Awesome!

I prefer hurling, think I read somewhere that its the fastest field game.
