So i'm doing research for my Geography class on what it takes to be a global citizen - compiling a list of criteria and then discussing it, etc.. For example, one item could be "vote". I'm interested to hear what everyone else thinks it takes to be a global citizen - all ideas welcome! Thanks for any input :)

Hate the Americans...

Just kidding...

- have an open mind
- genuine interest for people and cultures
- know at least 2 languages (your own + 1)
- know at least one global language
(english, Spanish, chinese)
- being able to travel freely

wtf do you want to be a global citizen? that sounds like 1 world gov. shit to me. worry about your country, state, city, neighborhood, block, house, self! everything else is bullshit

chrislingle-Global CITIZEN not GOV!
Pay attention to the post (its OK if you don't just pop into threads just to complain, you probably have more valuable input that that!) Don't be lost in deniel, enough rainforrests, animals, and plants get destroyed it will effect you in your home. Whats going on with the oil companies in another country, effects EVERYTHING-EVERYWHERE, perfect example! Some of us are capable of worrying about the stuff around us AND the world we live in.

anyways......

I think being a global citizen is about just not thinking about ourself and our own little, limited world we live in. Our inpact can be far reaching when we think as a global citizen.

We use products that destroy parts of our world, balance it with buying an acre of rainforest in a preserve or in an animal refuge.

When good happens or you receive something, pay it forward (not back). Encourage the next person to do the same.

Become educated on other cultures. I may not want to follow the American Indian's religion, but I do want to follow their ways of respecting the land.

Be self sufficient in as many areas as you can (or at least have the skills). You won't use up limited resources that you don't need to. Also, that way you aren't as dependent on things there could be shortages of or limits on or priced so high it limits use.

Knowing, learning, and doing about covers the core of being a better citizen in the town you live in, the country you live in, and the world you live in.

Make us all proud and write a really good paper!
