Best books to read?

I actually searched before I made this thread and didn't find anything in the first three result pages.

but now I search again and there's this exact thread on the fourth page.
Guess I didn't look hard enough. Sorry

Atlas Shrugged by Aryn Rand - everyone should read at least twice

Eat That Frog by Brian Tracy - on procrastination/productivity

How to Be Invisible by JJ Luna - search for amanda11's thread on this book for download links

Art of War by Sun Tzu

Webbots, Spiders, and Screen Scrapers - php

I've been stepping away from reading books by marketers & direct marketers lately and studying people who've actually made hundreds of millions of dollars instead.

The mindsets are totally different. Personally that's the level I really want to be playing at as well, and I feel studied-out for much of the marketing guys.

Anyway - Here are my top books in that realm.

1. How to Get Rich - Felix Dennis (Networth: $500 Mil+, founder of Maxim & PC Magazine and more)

2. How to Be Rich - Paul Getty (Networth: Over $30 billion by today's standards, one of the richest oil guys. Would be worth more than bill gates + warren buffet combined if alive today.)

3. The Real Deal - James Caan (Networth: $110 Mil, founder of Humana, #38 on Forbes 500 list.)

4. Delivering Happiness - Tony Hseih (Networth: $200 Mil+, founder of Zappos)

5. Your First $100 Million - Dan Pena (Took $800 and turned it into $480 million in 8 years.)

I also recommend Mixergy.com. (Note: Not an affiliate or owner, just a recommendation.) This guy basically interviews many of the top internet business guys and puts it on his site for $25 a month. I've learned more from this site than I have in many books combined. Also much easier to learn listening than reading for me.

My 2 cents,

- Derek

Thanks a lot for the recommendations Matt and Derek.

I actually just ordered the Felix Dennis book (heard it's really good),
along with Ca$hvertising, and Getting Things Done (David Allen).

That should keep me busy with books for a bit.

After I'm done with those, Tested Advertising Methods is definitely on top of my next order list. I read a lot of good things about it but I want to first finish Ca$hvertising before I move on to that one.

For social media marketing I liked "21 Ways To Use Social Media" by Maria Gudelis. It was pretty informative, easy to read, and straight to the point. It's an Amazon Best Seller and cost about $17.

Best book for me would be 'The 4-hour work week' by Tim Ferriss. It's an EASY read but will send your brain into overdrive. I've read it 4 times now and each and every time it kicks off a whole different set of ideas loose.

He has some awesome free stuff on his page.

If you are wanting some inspiration and watch the videos on this page:

Quick online business contest he ran and has some great lessons: The Way of the Dodo — How to Sell 10,000 iPad Cases at $60 Each (and Other Lessons Learned)

Here is his book overview:

Whether you're an overworked employee or an entrepreneur trapped in your own business, The 4-hour work week is the compass for a new and revolutionary world.
Forget the old concept of retirement and the rest of the deferred-life plan—there is no need to wait and every reason not to. Whether your dream is escaping the rat race, high-end world travel, monthly five-figure income with zero management, or just living more and working less, this book is the blueprint.
You can have it all—really.
Join Tim Ferriss, popular guest lecturer in entrepreneurship at Princeton University, as he teaches you:

  • How to outsource your life and do whatever you want for a year, only to return to a bank account 50% larger than before you left
  • How blue-chip escape artists travel the world without quitting their jobs
  • How to eliminate 50% of your work in 48 hours using the principles of little-known European economists
  • How to train your boss to value performance over presence, or kill your job (or company) if it's beyond repair
  • How to trade a long-haul career for short work bursts and frequent “mini-retirements”
  • What automated cash-flow "muses" are and how to create one in 2-4 weeks
  • How to cultivate selective ignorance—and create time—with a low-information diet
  • Management secrets of Remote Control CEOs
  • The crucial difference between absolute and relative income
  • How to get free housing worldwide and airfare at 50-80% off
  • How to fill the void and creating meaning after removing work and the office
The 4-Hour Workweek also includes the sample e-mails, voicemails, and real-life deals (with dollar figures and all) you will need to master the new world of luxury lifestyle design.

I apologize if I am pimping the book but while Tim tends to be a bit 'full' of himself, he is VERY good at explaining a 'system'....
