Too fucking lazy to look them up.

Aerosmith "Come Together"

Bobby McFerrin "Sunshine of Your Love"

Jimi Hendrix "All Along the Watchtower"

Elvis Presley "You Were Always On My Mind"

Alient Ant Farm "Smooth Criminal"

Been some others, but the unifying theme in the above is artists who are very different from the original, producing songs that are so well-adapted to the second artist that some people don't even know that the remake is a remake. There are others like this of course, but those tend to be my favourite kind of remake. If I want to hear some vaguely talented reproduction of a classic song I'll go hang out in a bar.

Johnny Cash Hurt - YouTube

-------------------------------------------------
When Rick Rubin asked if Cash could cover his song, Reznor said he was "flattered" but worried that "the idea sounded a bit gimmicky." He became a fan of Cash's version, however, once he saw the music video.

I pop the video in, and wow... Tears welling, silence, goose-bumps... Wow. [I felt like] I just lost my girlfriend, because that song isn't mine anymore...

Hurt (Nine Inch Nails song) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
-------------------------------------

When you (Johnny Cash) cover someone's song (Trent Reznor & NIN) and you do it so well that they say it's no longer their song.... best cover song of all time. Thread over.
