Jimi Hendrix is the best I've ever heard. Personally I don't give a toss how "fast" or technical a guitarist is. For that reason, "slow hand" Eric Clapton comes second. What counts for me is how they translate emotion into music. With Hendrix you sometimes get the feeling there's no in-between phase between what he's feeling and what he plays. It's just totally connected.

I'm not a Van Halen fan or anything, but before Our Lady Peace got big, I went to see them open for Van Halen. The Van Halen brother that plays guitar was nothing short of "fucking sick"!
