am working on a project which just needs a hook into API (very simple) and pull data and some front end design (simple uncluttered page like google). I prolly like to store some data in DB as well.

Where do you think i can find good coders who can do this. Dont want to spend a ton of money on this one, any idea how much i can get this all for?

finding good designers can be tough. the best way to hold onto them is to keep them to yourself.

i could have this built for you. you could get it done cheaper if you scoured odesk/elance/fl'er.com, but i can get it done fast and you won't have to guess if its going to look/be legit. pm me with details if interested.

Sounds like a small project, so just odesk.com, elance.com, guru.com, or whatever should be fine.

If you ever need larger scale stuff done, from what I've seen, most people go about it wrong. Don't look for a good developer. Look for a good project manager who is / used to be a good developer. Once you find him/her, then starting getting your ducks in a row when it comes to developers. That way you have a project manager who knows his shit in the technical arena, and can stay on top of the developers.

Thanks guys, seems like i should be able to find someone good enough at odesk.com. Posted a job and awaiting more applicants. found 1 that meets my criteria.

For small stuff odesk or freelancer.com can be fine, I prefer the latter. But for larger apps you really don't want to hire from those sites because they're infested with spaghetti coders.

I recruited someone via PM from sitepoint.com once and that guy was a real pro, high quality code and fast. If you're not a coder yourself then you'll probably don't notice the difference between a good and bad coder (or not until it's too late). But the difference is definately there, both in speed and quality.

Either way, having worked with my fair share of spaghetti coders I now try to find the good ones instead on sites like sitepoint.com (even for small stuff). And although I haven't tried stackoverflow yet, this is also a site with a lot of good coders on it + they have a dedicated hiring section: Hire Software Developers and Programmers - Stack Overflow Careers 2.0

Get recommendations from people you trust. If you don't know anybody in the industry who's worked with someone, maybe look around here or some freelancing site. Be careful though, so easy to get burnt.

HigherPR here on WF. He's done some stuff for me and I'm happy with his design work. The stuff he's done for wasn't one or two page thin sites either.
