Best verizon smartphone?

lol, they're fucking you in the ass. You can get unlimited 3G data with unlimited texts and some voice minutes for $25/month from Virgin Mobile (Sprint). No contract. I use one of their phones to tether my netbook.
They're cool with the tethering? The mobile broadband from VM is like $80/month for "unlimited" data and 3G speeds drop off monthly after a 2.5GB soft cap.

FWIW...my brother has the HTC Evo with Sprint, and you can tether with a USB cord without having to purchase the "mobile hotspot" feature and without having to root the phone. He downloaded an app called Easy Tether, and I used it myself so I know it works.

I decided on the Samsung Droid Charge for myself though, with verizon. The 4g LTE and unlimited data is going to be awesome. Plus mobile hotspot is free.

It's probably against the ToS, but it's pretty much all I use the phone for and I've been doing it for 8 months now with no issues. I bought the phone specifically for tethering, because it was cheaper and had more features than their tethering data plans and equipment. I have no idea how much data I actually use though, it might not be much. If they terminated my account for tethering, I'd just buy another phone and do it again, since it would *still* be cheaper.

I have to agree with the Charge if you're in a 4g area. I have mine rooted with a custom ROM to get rid of that horrid color scheme. I haven't checked out the Droid Bionic which could be promising.

I am using an og droid X on verizon that is rooted and running cyanogen mod 7 rom. This is by far the best phone i have ever used. The stock droid x was not that great but running cm7 it is amazing. I switched from an iphone 4 to the x and couldnt be happier now that its modded.

I am planning on going to a droid bionic next month unless the iphone 5 has some must have feature that I cant live without.

I can't believe this thread Necro'd... It's been a while and it was sad the first time...

Oh well.. Since then I got a Droid Incredible II and I love it. Best phone I've ever owned.
