Best Way to Sell a Car?

I'm in the same position. Except I'm a moron and have negative equity. Tough pill to swallow.

I live in AZ and ride my motorcycle everywhere. The car just sits and collects dust.

I'm pretty sure some dealerships will buy cars outright, but you're going to lose money vs. private party, obviously.

Good luck bro.

AutoTrader is where I bought my last car from

I sold the same car on CL 3 years later. A guy from Tennessee saw my listing and drove like 8 hours to come see the car and buy it.

Cars.com ... Take like 20+ photos, add a video walkthrough, competitive price, vehicle comments, etc. Should sell soon. Post add on CL link it to the Cars.com page for more info/pics/video.

I've only used CL to sell my prev cars. pretty hassle with all the lowballers and flakers.

do you guys think autotrader & cars.com are better than CL? if so how?

I just tossed my shit up on Cars.com for now, CL is ridiculous though. Funny enough I bought this same whip off CL, huge mistake, hopefully Cars.com works but if not I'll drop the $90 on the Autotrader listing.

Thread is relevant to my interests since I'm going to be selling. Problem is, I want to sell to a private party and replace it with another car but between finding a buyer and finding the exact car that I want I'm going to be without a vehicle.

Good choice, in the auto industry we get 10x leads with Cars.com vs AT... Don't assume Cars.com or CL doesn't work if the car doesn't sell though, you can try AT.. But keep in mind we had a used car in like-new condition and low miles, sit on our lot for over a year plus easily.. Even at a cheap price, I think we lost like $8K on it since it sat so long and we had to drop it down. And then there's the buying cycle, where people will call you about the car (while their in the "research stage", and then come try to buy it like 2 months later. Just keep following up with people, no matter how annoying, bug them once a month to see if they'll bump up their price. Even the low ballers, text/e-mail, perhaps they got a bonus at work, or landed a new job, inheritance, move and have cheaper rent, etc.

Ps. have you tried to trade it in yet? Assuming the offers were too low?

Umm what else.. Oh, your ad will get 100x more traffic and eye balls on CL vs. Cars.com (No idea but I did an impression count on our ads on CL and it blew my mind how many people shop it in our market). But highly suggest linking the CL ad to Cars.com as people will click over, they click over to our site all the time.. And once they see the video/full-photos/lead capture form, comments, etc. They convert even better...

Oh in the CL ad:

Make sure you put in the footer. (City, State, Year, Make, Model, (Sedan, truck, SUV), Low Miles, Leather, etc).. Then (Ford, Honda, Toyota, etc list all of them), so it shows up in all the searches.. I sold the shittest, most unknown brand doing that. Would have gotten like 2 searches had I not done that.

But meh... Good luck brah.

This ruins Craigslist. Thank you.

I've sold cars via many of the methods listed. CL really isn't a bad option. What kind of vehicle are you selling? Perhaps the price or demand isn't right in your area?

But a for sale sign in the window. You may think I'm joking but if you are still driving it around and/or live in a high traffic area that shit will sell.

Craigslist is by far the best way to buy/sell cars. I had my car up for 2 months on Autotrader, no action. Sold it in 2 weeks on Craigslist.

Also, MAYBE... your ad sucks! Before sinking $90 into Autotrader, try split testing a few things. I used to work at Autotrader back in the day so maybe I can help you rewrite your ad. Email me?

A For Sale sign in my wife's car window cost me a $75 fine because the city I was parked in prohibited "for sale" signs on vehicles. Just double check with your municipality to ensure that it is legal...

What a fucking country.
