Big Brown Triple Crown

I live in Baltimore so the hype around the Preakness is always pretty fun. It was pretty amazing watching Big Brown pull away with ease in the race. The jockey seemed to be holding him back the whole 3/4 of the race and coming around that last turn just let him loose. Fun to watch for sure.

What amazes me is how many Big Brown fans there are. I mean, lets be real... nobody actually watches Horse Racing. Nobody knew who Big Brown was until the Derby. People just want to see a Triple Crown Winner so they root for the favorite. EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR.

I'm not complaining because I do the exact same thing. I can remember listening to the Smarty Jones race on the radio and really really wanting him to win. He didn't.

It's just interesting how it seems to be the exact opposite of other sports. Any mainstream sports, the half-and-half fans seem to flock to the underdog, hoping for a come from behind victory.

I don't know. Just an observation. But yeah, I hope Big Brown wins.

I really don't care about it either, but it's fun to throw a few bucks on some random numbers for a superfecta bet. :) (that's the bet where you pick 4 horses, in order).

For the derby, it cost you $6 to make the bet, and if you picked the right numbers, the payout was $58,000 something. And that number was low, because the favorite won. I think I remember the year that Gaicamo (can't be bothered to check the spelling on that) won, it was many hundreds of thousands for the correct superfecta ;)

For the preakness, because the field was small, and Big Brown was so heavily favored, the superfecta only got you about $1,300 or so. lol!

So, when the big races come around, if you have somewhere to place the bet, just go and put a few bucks on 4 random numbers, screw trying to pay attention and "pick" the winners. Just 4 random numbers.. if it hits, lots of $$$. :)
