First of all there are two classes of rape, one of which has no statute of limitations. Hint: it involves drugs which Kiopa alluded to in his post. "He drugged me", which could mean they snorted a bunch of lines together or whatever.

Secondly, they're looking for a payday to keep shit quiet. Cosby already settled one rape allegation out of court for an undisclosed sum. His accusers could be hoping he does the same this time around.

When your net worth is close to half a billion it might just be easier to throw a couple mil at a problem to make it go away, even if it isn't true. When you're approaching 80, time is valuable. Do you want to spend a year of your life in court trying to prove a point, or would you rather spend a few bucks to make the problem go away so you can spend your time with family, or relaxing on a private island somewhere instead?

Again, that's probably more realistic than Cosby being some maligned individual who needs to drug women unconscious in order to have sex with them.

I don't think it makes him any more or less likely to be guilty, but Cosby is not Cliff Huxtable, and he might be "conservative" in many ways, but not overall like some seem to think he is.

He has admitted to cheating on his wife and has been going to Playboy events since the 1960s. He was also on Playboy's After Dark tv show, which might be relatively tame now, but still wouldn't exactly be a model for "family" television.
