Bitcoin botnet gets taken out

Goes to show how hopeless mining for bitcoins now. 1.9m bots to make just over $2k/day.

It's certainly a tough racket, but you have to consider that the vast majority of those machines would have been very much run of the mill computers with little to no hashing power. Curious to see what impact this has on the overall difficulty level though.

But a majority of it was dat click fraud where the real monies is at. The guy could have gone under the radar if he didn't do the bitcoin mining.

correct me if I'm wrong - but why are they included power costs in this? arent the "infected" computers on and browsing the interwebs anyway at a steady 500W or whatever?

No, the more load on your machine, the more power it uses. When it's idle, it's not drawing down as much power as when it's trying to mine.

ahh right, that makes sense - thanks. for some reason i knew the computer drew more power from the supply but once it leaves the back of the box I have no concept of power consumption whatsoever :/

i say good riddance to this botnet. im sure there are dozens if not hundreds more of these out there but it is driving up click prices and causing shit for advertisers everywhere.
