Some people criticize Chris Hemsworth for bad acting and being no better than a block of wood carved into the shape of a man.
But this movie sets the record straight with a stellar performance by Hensworth showing that he is capable of being more than just a lump with a hammer.
Blackhat is a thrill ride from start to finish and every minute of the 133 minute runtime will have you gripping the edge of your set in suspense.
When looking at the trailer of Blackhat you can be forgiven for assuming this is another movie that is nothing more than a lazy cash grab, with everyone involved being so lazy and apathetic that the movie becomes a clusterfuck of illogical plot, bad acting, horrible writing and mistakes so basic even a elementary child could point out computers don’t work that way.
But Blackhat subverts you expectations with a coherent plot, brilliant acting, a romantic sub plot that is woven seamlessly into the story, and villains who actions and motivations are completely believable.
Blackhat takes on a thrill ride around the globe with locations like Hong Kong and Jakarta featuring prominently. And I personally loved how they accurately portrayed Hong Kong’s very casual attitude towards armed South American mercenaries gunning down Hong Kong police officers with no repercussion or anyone attempting to stop them. As someone who has personally studied culture Asian extensively I can honestly say this the most accurate depiction of how Hong Kong police operate I have ever seen on the silver screen.
What truly amazed me is the level of research put in the script for Blackhat. Not many people know, outside of academic circles, that rolled up porno magazines have been proven to be a far superior form of body armor than Kevlar and I am surprised not only in the inclusion of this fact in the plot but also in the guts it takes to show this to an audience in the face of strong opposition from arms manufactures who wish to maintain their dominance on body armor and don’t want it to be widely known that paper is far superior to Kevlar.
I tip my hat to both Morgan Davis Foehl and Michael Mann for standing true in the insurmountable opposition and delivering this amazing movie.
Bravo!
