Brendan Eich's resignation, your views?

Fat shaming is out, opinion shaming is in.

I don't know what's more troubling, the fact that people seem to think that it's acceptible to pressure someone into leaving their job because they hold unpopular political opinions, or the fact that Eich lacked the character to actually stand up and tell them to fuck off.

Norman Mailer said that society took a turn for the worse when people realized they could say whatever they wanted without having to worry about getting punched in the face for it, and I agree.

If people in Eich's position stood up with any kind of regularity and gave their persecutors a nice "Fuck You" and a smile, we'd be in a much better situation than we are now.

Absolutely. I wish he stood up and said a fuck you to his persecutors. It seems to me that he took that decision thinking his continuation as CEO would hurt Firefox's future. If he fought back would it have affected the future of Firefox? I don't believe so though.

Also, I find it ironic that some so called liberals are persecuting someone for their personal opinions.

I predict he'll be back with firefox in some fashion once this dies down, and that OKStupid will soon be a queer dating site.

I, for one, have no clue what anyone is talking about.

BUT I. AM. OFFENDED.

For better or worse, my unconscious response to the "walk-on-eggshells" culture being foisted upon us has been to steadily increase both the severity and frequency of profanity in my day-to-day language.

I like to think I'm doing good for everyone by reminding people that if they act like cocksuckers, or cunts, or just garden variety assholes, there are still a few people around who will call them on it.

Truthfully though, people probably just think I'm an anachronistic asshole.

I am ok with that.

He should have been fired for using Firefox as a platform for 'gay talk' and going after a buisness for their actions. With that said if this was a publicity stunt, he should get a big fat bonus.

How the fuck was this faggot "persecuted"? He decided he wants to prevent teh gays living in misery like the rest of us, and got called out by a third rate dating site. Instead of standing up for what he believes in, he fell on his sword and you faggots are crying like he is a victim. Fuck. This place is getting stupid.

The public opinion pendulum is swinging: bigotry -> liberty -> liberal fascism and then probably back. Or maybe not. The power of an individual is still as big as always, but remaining quiet was his choice.

Oh and they should stop using javascript now too.

Thirty-seven companies in the database are linked to more than 1,300 employees who gave nearly $1 million in combined contributions to the campaign for Prop 8. Twenty-five tech companies are linked to 435 employees who gave more than $300,000. Many of these employees gave $1,000 apiece, if not more. Some, like Eich, are probably senior executives.

Why do these bigots still have jobs? Let’s go get them

Didn't read your linked article because ultimately I don't care, but this this "victim" talk is just sad. Anarchists crying about corporate fags who don't have the balls to defend their beliefs.

Does the mind not revolt at a situation where it is a crime to pressure someone to resign their job because of their sexual orientation, but perfectly acceptible to pressure someone to resign because of their opinions?

That's some highly refined sarcasm, he links to this page, and tells people how to download the .csv of all the donors.
Right, I guess you didn't read all the way to the end of the article.

If we’re serious about taking down corporate officers who supported Proposition 8, and boycotting employers who promote them, we'd better get cracking on the rest of the list. Otherwise, perhaps we should put down the pitchforks.
