Welcome to America, home of the humorless.

'I'm going to destroy America and dig up Marilyn Monroe': British pair arrested in U.S. on terror charges over Twitter jokes

Two British tourists were barred from entering America after joking on Twitter that they were going to 'destroy America' and 'dig up Marilyn Monroe'.

Leigh Van Bryan, 26, was handcuffed and kept under armed guard in a cell with Mexican drug dealers for 12 hours after landing in Los Angeles with pal Emily Bunting.

The Department of Homeland Security flagged him as a potential threat when he posted an excited tweet to his pals about his forthcoming trip to Hollywood which read: 'Free this week, for quick gossip/prep before I go and destroy America?'

It got even more ridiculous because the officials searched our suitcases and said they were looking for spades and shovels.

LOLOLOL

If their skin was brown and/or they were muslim, this would make more sense.

But...they're from the UK and lily white.

Wat?

It's entirely possible they were detained simply for looking like assholes.

Wtf? So can we assume the US checks peoples social media accounts of people arriving there? Or is it more likely someone reported this?

what a fucking load of old bollocks. You can have people protesting at dead soldiers funerals with God hates fags placards but you cant have some kid with british english colloquialisms on his twitter feed?

this is a BIG fucking deal

At least a couple of you saw it... At least got close...

I've been in the air (literally) for the last two days but I saw this news story en route and couldn't wait to get here and find out which ones of you fags aren't idiots.

The two above are officially brighter than a turnip... The rest of WF isn't doing so well right now. :D

To those who haven't figured it out yet; this news story could not have taken place if the DHS wasn't monitoring EVERY TWITTER FEED ON EARTH, linking accounts to real people, and acting in real time to prevent any perceived threats.

Sure, they're just doing a keyword search no doubt; someone said "destroy america" (Hi feds - Just quoting!) and their search bot sent the tweet to an analyst no doubt, certainly one with no humor at all.

But the really interesting part is that the feds tied the twitter account to a real person and put out a warning for them at the airport(s).

Anyone see a problem with this? A social media account = A person?

There is less privacy online than any of us can imagine. And that knowledge of your Identity is already being acted on by the US Government, even if you live elsewhere in the world. This is FACT. No conspiracy theory here.

With our newfound fame as abusers of drone attacks, it won't take long until this turns into a source of information that we use to assassinate people by drone. At the very least you can expect the # of keyword phrases they are searching for constantly to rapidly increase and eventually they'll know more than you can possibly believe about every last person with a social media account. Keywords like "walk my dog" or "went to Notre Dame" will be stored and categoried, AUTOMATICALLY.

Millions of such keyword searches all filing real people every single day.

What a fucking Orwellian nightmare this country is rapidly turning into.
