With today's super duper high speed connections, is it still relevant for browsers to cache data and serve me the same fucking cached version every time I go to a website?

How do I tell Chrome or FF to completely STOP serving me cached content? Is it even possible? It's driving me crazy to not be able to see the changes I make right when I make them! Such a waste of time to have to clear the cache and refresh 16 times... and sometimes even having to restart!

for your trouble...

It seems to have to do with how you refresh a page. Instead of clicking the refresh button click the address bar and hit enter, should update. Otherwise in Chrome go to Options->Under the hood->Clear Browser Data and click on 'Empty the cache' and click 'Clear Browser Data'.

browser caching still speeds things up quite a bit, even on very fast connections.

If you're working on a CMS of some sort, you should have caching turned off while coding anyways. Disable the caching plugins while coding, finish up, turn them back on, and you'll be fine.

Finally, in chrome and firefox, if you hold shift and click refresh (or press shift + ctrl + r) you'll do a full cache refresh

You can tell firefox to use 0mb of cache in options-->advanced-->network. Mine's been like that for ages.

Thanks for the tips guys. Even with shift F5 it sometimes takes a couple times before it extracts the actual version.

I'll try the 0mb cache thing...
