Bulking Up

If you're going to do deadlifts and squats, don't be a dumbass like i was. Felt invisible too early on, 405 deadlift 2nd week in (after 6 months off) and 2 yrs later chronic lower back issues.

Damn 150 at 5'11" is scrawny as hell. I'm same height but about 15lbs heavier and i'm scrawny.

Westside for Skinny Bastards A modified lifting program for "Hardgainers" - DeFranco's Training

That or Rippetoe's is a solid program. Squats/Deadlifts gonna get you bulked up the fastest but don't neglect bench and rows.

If you're gonna buy anything get a weight gaining shake. Get a big tub of musclejuice 2544 and sort out your diet. Tastes great and lots of calories n protein

Dude,

I am 6 1 and i used to weigh 120 lbs....now I weigh around 210 lbs,

this is how i did it....

40 - 60 grams of protein every day....5 times a week,

ate a lot of chicken almost everyday, I also ate alot of spaghetti at night times..

and ofcourse hit the gym 6 days a week...1 hour and 30 mins a day....I did it for around 6 months strong. I still do alot of heavy lifting...thats where its at....good luck

Start drinking a gainer. Lift weights. Eat more meat. Profit?

Edit: Lifting weights is essential, get yourself a squat cage and a weight set if you don't go to the gym.

Can't build muscle with bodyweight exercises? Bunch of dumb meatheads in this thread. The OP is a scrawny weakling and could make massive gains in lean body mass and functional strength with only bodyweight exercises like pull ups, pushups, dips, etc. Shit, there are 100 different ways to do pushups alone. I guarantee you not one of you bicep curling meatheads could do even 2 handstand pushups. OP - if you're interested in serious bodyweight training check out sites like http://www.bodyweightculture.com and get yourself a solid pull up bar and attach a suspension trainer like TRX or USA etc. Also check youtube for bodyweight routines, "barbarians workout", "ghetto workout" etc. and you'll see guys who are insanely strong from bodyweight routines.

Bottom line OP needs to harden the fuck up, and not sure weight gainers are such a good idea either as he already stated he has some flab. First he needs to start training REAL hard and eating more than 3 meals a day with lots of protein in those meals. And as most said pushups and sit ups lone will not cut it.

Pushups won't do jackshit for you

I beg to differ. Pushups do help especially when you have this:

OP just go to eBay and search for MiR weighted vest. I use 2 80lb weight vests at the same time for a total of 160 extra pounds( I do 5 sets of 100 reps). I have had these for a while and they probably have less bulky versions now plus the good thing is you see those pockets, you can adjust it to whatever amount of weight you need by pulling the individual weights out so don't feel scared about getting the biggest one they have because it just leaves room for improvement and it's adjustable.

Everybody wants to be a bodybuilder but nobody wants to lift no heavy ass weights

Since a lot of people are recommending Rippetoe's (which emphasizes heavy weights), I'll chime in about a common beginners' mistake: don't burn out your CNS (central nervous system).

Beginners start lifting, get excited about lifting heavy things and start lifting their 1RM (1 rep-max, the single heaviest weight you can lift and cannot lift anymore) every workout.

For an absolute beginner this will increase your strength and mass every workout for maybe the first few workout sessions. Pretty soon though you'll hit a wall, and if you're not careful and keep pushing yourself your nervous system is going to get "fried" from sending all those high-intensity signals every workout and you'll actually get weaker.

It will still take a relatively long time for a beginner to hit this "CNS wall" since their musculature and CNS is so underdeveloped that they don't have much "neuronal energy" to fire anyway, but when you do get burnt out you'll start losing strength and motivation.

One other thing I've noticed is that anything that is CNS-intensive (read: heavy weights) takes a hit if you've got a lot of stuff going on in your life (stress, lots of work, etc.) and you realize just how much the mind and the body are connected - those relatively slim weightlifters who are stronger than bodybuilders of the same size are that way because a significant amount of their strength comes from neural training, i.e. how strong an electrical signal they can send from the brain to the muscles. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that weightlifiting can actually be more taxing on the mind than the body.

I didn't read the thread but I'll tell you this much.. don't waste your money on supps. You're from Australia (as am I).. so every evening, you go up to Coles or Woolworths and buy BBQ chickens on sale for $2-3 each. Next day, you eat a whole chicken for breakfast, a whole chicken for lunch, a whole chicken for dinner... and snack as much as you can inbetween.

On special chicken is the cheap way to bulk... I blew up to almost 120kg.. No cardio.. do a 5 day split and lay around and eat whenever possible. Lift, eat, sleep.. and do your online stuff inbetween.. you will gain a shit load of weight and look like a russian lumberjack and not some faggot ass gay vampire from twilight which is how most faggots want to look these days.

I know you don't want to go to the gym but go.. yes, it can be scary and intimidating (I was scared and intimidated but I persisted, all those guys are cool bros anyway) when you can't bench fuck all and these ego driven faggots are benching tonnes of weight but ignore them.. find a good, independent gym (avoid fitness first or other chain gyms) and speak to the owner and get him to set you up on a program, don't be scared to ask because these old time fuckers love to put skinny kids like you on a program. Ignore the idiots who walk around in wife beaters.. sure they probably laugh at you but it's character building to keep going and ignoring them and you'll probably end up better than them if you just focus on yourself. Most of them are dickheads just having a good time due to all the test floating around the room and dick measuring but at heart are good people.

Mark Rippetoe all the way ***Rippetoe's Starting Strength FAQ*** - Bodybuilding.com Forums

It's basically all core body workouts: squats, bench, deadlift, rows, and chin ups

Also, consume 1k more calories than your reg. Body building is 90% nutrition. Its not uncommon to gain like 20 pounds in the first month or 2 with this program.

i went from 170 to 198 in about two months doing starting strength and eating A LOT. actually i only ate a lot for two weeks, but it seemed to help. it was actually surprisingly easy.

OP - WF is the last place you want to get advice about anything related to your health. Go over to bodybuilding.com and learn from those people (I'm there too) that live and breath this stuff.

Don't buy a single damn supplement until you have a good plan in place. You have to work on the basics of exercise (get up and just start moving) and nutrition (Don't eat the shit your friends eat. Watch every calorie you take in , and take in more) . You won't need supplements for awhile.

Kay, I change my vote to getting advice from non-Internet marketers as well.

"2 inches on arms in a single workout."

Asian-Troll-Face.jpg

Not unless the arms were concave before.

I didn't see any measurements - but I guess you're referring to the massive gains vs. short high intensity workouts.

The OP has about as much in common with these guys as a fart in a windstorm though.

It should be clearly understood that neither of the subjects was an "average" subject, and there is no implication that subjects of average or below average potential will all produce equal results from a similar program of exercises.

Casey Viator has trained on a fairly regular basis for a period of several years;
The second subject (the author, Arthur Jones) has trained on a very irregular basis for a period of thirty four years ... and reached a muscular bodyweight of 205 pounds at one time, nineteen years ago.
OP is a less-than-average dude who by this post:

Ok, I'm fairly skinny, and I want to bulk up, 'coz dem ladies like those buff, muscley dudes. I'm 5'11"ish and about 150lb. I have a bit of flab, I'm currently using the 100 pushups app and 5 minute ab workout app to try and tighten my gut.

Basically my goal weight is about 200lb, but I need to build muscle while putting the weight on. I don't want to do a special diet due to my living arrangements at the moment, and I don't really want to go to the gym.

One of the first things I'm gonna start with is to start eating three meals a day, as I usually only have two meals a day and some days I only eat one meal. This is to start gaining weight. I'm gonna keep going on this 100 pushups program, plus probably do a more intensive abs workout, but I'm kinda stuck past this.
Doesn't sound like he's got years of active fitness/diet knowledge. Or been to a gym. I don't think his body would pack mass on like a body that already has been in the habit of doing so for years.

PLUS - the arm thing just isn't realistic. 2 inches on an arm in a single workout is either measuring while you're pumped [when anyone out of the gym is double their size w the bloodflow] - or once again, the arms are rather small in the first place. Anyone with 14-16" arms [average but consistent gym visitor size I think] could never hope to gain and keep several inches on their arm in a single lift. I figure any mod/non-trollable authority on this forum that works out will say this as well.

I've read about those grueling 2-3 hour lifts where a guy is able to put on a few inches on his arm, but his gains were very temporary [like a week or two] since he was doing final competition preperation, AND I don't think the OP would ever be able to handle a 2-3 hour workout even once a week with no prior lifting experience. Nor would there be a point unless he was planning to get "dem ladies" a few weeks at a time.
