Burn After Reading: Waste of 2 fucking hours

See, the problem with a movie like Burn After Reading is that people are expecting it to be something it really isn't.

It's only funny if you're the sort of person that thought Layer Cake or In Bruges was funny. The it's not comedy so much as just really morbid fantasy that's not-quite-ironic.

Agreed. Don't watch movies by the Coen brother if you are looking for dick and fart jokes.

I liked it. It was a little bit slow, but it was actually funny. "Haha, you think that's a Schwinn" has become one of my favourite movie lines, just because of how Brad Pitt delivered it.

Anyways, I had a bit of a Gold Class mishap (Harvey might be the only one who knows what Gold Class is... basically you get reclining seats and food delivered to you during the movie and we didn't get our food :() so I kind of missed about 15 important minutes when I was trying to get something to eat.

But yeah, I liked it. In Bruges was fucking hilarious, too.
Loooooove seeing movies gold class... You never have to put up with fucking teenagers talking on their phones through the damn movie.
It's a pity they never put the horror movies in it :(

Oh, if you come to Melbourne, you've got to to go to Central and try the "Director's Suite". Makes gold class look like it's electroplated on.
A friend took me there the other week. The ONLY draw back to it I can even think of is that the seats are too far apart to get some "fun" going on off screen.

I loved In Bruges... hated the ending tho.

Only because of the song.

Ah, so it's that you're not a Coen brothers fan. I enjoy their movies. One I don't see people mention a lot is The Ladykillers.

I liked Layer Cake a lot. But I haven't seen In Bruges. I typically avoid the theater, though... so I'm not surprised.

I thought The Ladykillers was a pretty good movie. Thoroughly funny, with some really hilarious scenes.

In Bruges and Burn After Reading are both on my list of movies to see.

I thought Brad Pitt's scenes were actually funny, but he had a relatively small role. The rest of the movie stunk.

I love Cohen Bro's stuff, but this meeting of greed and stupidity fell flat.

I thought it was a rather brilliant movie about how people will continue to dig the hole a little deeper for themselves and everyone around them because they keep saying "Dig up, stupid!"... And at the end of it, we learnt not to do it again, whatever it was in the first place.
But we never learn what it is in the first place.
The way I see it, the whole movie rests on you understanding that last line as being something you're meant to realise is happening in your own life.

Also, the bit where they finally wipe the smile of Brad Pitt's face is great!

Agreed, and it was good. Layer Cake and In Bruges were both great movies.

re: Burn After Reading...
I remember thinking - 'I think I'm supposed to find this funny.'
Awful, awful movie. Don't even waste your piss on it.

In Bruges +10.
'You karate chopped a midget!'

I loved this movie. I thought the characters were all pathetically great and I like the style of humor. It was great to see Brad Pitt as such a douche and John Malkovich was awesome as a pathetic, self obsessed alcoholic.
I wouldn't recommend it to everyone, but if you like dark, off beat humor then it's a good one.

John Malkovich was the only one good in this movie, however in general, I think that it really is a dissapointment considering realy highbudget cast

I liked "Burn After Reading." However, I should add a disclaimer (I always have a few). I enjoy watching George Clooney (onscreen) more than any man has a right to. And when the Coen brothers write an "idiot" part for him, it's pure gold.

I laughed every single time Pitt was on the screen. I loved Simmons as the CIA head, confused at his underling's subsequent reports of the zaniness. Malkovich and McDormand are always great, but especially so in the Coen brothers' films.

And I think I guffawed/snorted in the theater at the look on Pitts's face right before... well, you know (I don't want to spoil the moment for those who haven't seen the film).

8 on a 10 scale.

It was decent.

I was cracking up at all the scenes with the CIA dude who had no idea what was actually going on with such a simple situation.

Worst movie ever. Save your 2 hours and watch something else. Period.

The Coen Bros. movies are a bit of dark satirical absurd comedy which is supposed to make you go, huh.... hmmmm.... aaaah ok.... chuckle, chuckle chuckle.....

Maybe I wasn't in the right mood, but I didn't dig this one of theirs either.

Try checking out some of their other films.... All time FAV of theirs is, "The Big Lebowski" ---- insane film alert!!!!

The whole point of the movie was that it was all a waste of time and bullshit, but I thought the way they tied it all together was hilarious and pretty well done.
