The issues of state medical Marijuana legalization vs. federal law is becoming a very worrisome issue and has landed this Montana business owner and community leader a life sentence in prison. What is the right course of action when your state says you aren't breaking the law, but the federal government says you are?

One of these days, a case like this is going to become a historical court case, or at least I'd hope.

Nah man, that can't be. Only China and backward places kill citizens without trial, torture, and go after people with life sentences based on their personal preferences which harm no one.

Its a federal crime that he knowingly broke. He knew the crime why shouldnt he do the time?

Did you not watch the video?

The DOJ came out with a memo in 2009 that said

As long as he was complying with state laws, the feds shouldn't come after him. State level laws should be respected, and this shows that the federal government does not respect them.

Biggest problem I have with being a right-winger is the fetish of the criminalization of using drugs for personal use. Like blah, blah, freedom of the individual, blah, blah, we need to limit oppressive government regulation blah, blah HOLY FUCK LOOK AT THAT HIPPIE SMOKING A JOINT, LET'S THROW HIS ASS IN JAIL.

It just drives me nuts.

I don't smoke weed these days. But I really don't get why it's illegal. Just thinking about people I know who sell, or even deal weed, who're good people and respect most of the laws of society -- who go to jail for this shit really chaps my ass.

So many good people who have potential (and their families) are destroyed over this bull-crap. Tobacco kills, so does alcohol... weed probably will too. Just get the fuck over it, you pussy government morons.

It's one of those stupid laws, that's like alcohol prohibition, that destroys lives on a massive scale for no reason. I can't even walk in a public forest at harvest season around me, for fear of stumbling on a crop: if it were legal, potheads could grow it on their own damned property and kill trespassers -- which is totally understandable.

I've seen the negative side of what the illegality of weed does to people. Haven't heard much about the positives...

But we need brown people to monitor with ankle bracelets and fill up our drug treatment programs.
