Ok, this is an idea that's been floating round in my head for a few days. Basically if more than one person wants the same service they get together and buy it as a sort of buying co-op.

I guess it might work for design work, but I'm thinking more programming. There's some scripts I need to get made, which might cost a lot and not be used that much. Rather than me pay say $500 for a script, I'd rather share it with 5 people, each paying $100. Make sense?

We'd have to deal with licensing, resale, etc case by case I guess. Fuck, if enough people wanted something and were prepared to chip in a small amount we could even make the resulting script freely available.

There's some great programmers here, maybe they want the work, maybe not - if we used someone unknown it would also be spreading the risk.

Obviously, on a public forum this won't work for anything 'secret', but for things like keyword tools that could benefit a lot of people without giving away niches etc it could work..

Just a thought really - what do people think? Good plan or shit idea?

Brilliant!

Capital idea Hippy. If it were something I wanted, I'd certainly participate.

Yep, i guess this kind of practise is already prevailent among many webmasters already.
I remember splitting the costs and buying a few scripts the other day.

The thing is to rope in a set of induviduals who would be interested in buying the stuff you buy and also be ready to pay for it.

I'd be down, but there would have to be some sort of master "script list" to figure out what projects people need / want...

I was just kinda thinking people post what they are looking for invite programmers to bid and partners to join them then (hopefully) agree on the details.
