Bye bye Google+

About time. Worthless piece of dog crap anyway. To this day, I still can't figure out how G+ works.

To this day, I still can't figure out how G+ works.
It must run on awkwardness because that's the only feel I get when I bump circles with some guy I haven't seen in 10 years and barely knew in the first place.

If you want a vanity URL, you can't just have your name, or the match for your site's URL, no. You need to add some characters to it, even if it's not in use by anyone else. So you have to trick them to get your matching URL by changing your name or by registering a different URL. WTF is up with that bullshit? It's the most idiotic thing they could have done.

Looks like they are going to use android to compete with instagram, whatsapp, and facebook.

Google+ single handedly ruined Youtube for publishers. Hopefully they'll have enough sense to roll back some of these screw-ups that weren't capable of actually being integrated.

I kinda like G+.

Social networking sucks, that's for sure.

BUT authorship markup works extremely well for me.

AND G+ groups send me decent amounts of traffic.

YouTube comments seem less spammy.

Easier to manage my personl/brand G account, Adsense, Youtube, Gmail, etc in one.

....

However the Youtube G+ login, etc. that shit pisses me off.

The project was a massive fail before they even started.

"Too big to fail" comes to mind.

G owns the search industry, it's HUGE.

Trying to tap into social networking like FB, was idiotic...

You can't be someone's landlord, grocery store, and hospital all at the same time.

Then forcing people to join... That was wrong.

Do these overlays or pre-landers actually make any money? There is nothing more annoying. Serious question. Same with Forbes.com. When I go to an informational site I just want to read, not be hassled with bullshit offers.

On topic...I call bullshit. No fucking way are they going to invest the amount of money and resources into G+ just to dismantle it.

Why not? It's not like they haven't done shit like this before...

I remember being bashed like a Russian prostitute when i said that G+ will rise, wither and die. Pssht!

I don't however think they're going to kill it. Probably use it for more specific reasons like authorship or as a profile for Google products in general or use it as a newsfeed for all the authors that one follows.

The article says they're gonna "carve it up," and I take that to mean they're planning to create more targeted units to better serve smaller, more specific needs.

I read somewhere that Google search is experiencing pressure from more nimble search engines.

Yeah, I think "dismantle" was a bad choice of words. That's a whole lot of quality code to be throwing away. I'm assuming what they mean by "platform" is the Google+ website might disappear, but all that underlying infrastructure is going to stick around for Glass, and other things.
