Bye bye Google+

I've been working on WebRTC solutions for several years and one of the odd things that many of my peers in this field believe, which I at first thought was ridiculous, is that eventually solutions for things like talk, text, video, social networking and even search will be done peer to peer with no single company owning all of the servers and software that sit between people. Some think this solution will come from blockchain based software but most think it will come from techniques that have yet to be made public if they have even been discovered yet.

With this in mind, I find the big moves by gargantuan companies to be in line with this philosophy. For example, the amount of money paid to acquire WhatsApp.

I think Facebonk is especially vulnerable to this future whereas Gaygle just needs to make sure that they can put advertising on whatever the future brings and LinkDuh needs to make sure that they remain essential for biz networking.

Personally, I'm watching Groups and Hangouts to see how these recent changes with G+ affect them. Because if the elimination of intermediary companies comes, I have complete faith in Gaygle introducing their own version of software that does it for free while covering it with AdWords ads :)

Google+ has been a mess since day one. And don't even get me started on their awful integration job between Google+ Local and Places. I'd be happy to see all the + branding go away in favor of separating it all out into neat, specialized products.
