I Lol'd

I drive '94 fiat punto :). Some parts need replacement every now and then but they cost less than sandwich.

I invite whoever started the rumor that VW makes quality vehicles to meet me in the parking lot for a one-on-one "truth adjustment session." Say what you will about American cars but I bought a 98 Ford Explorer in 03 for $5k as a "Lowe's trip" and all-around "dog limo" to keep the dog hair in the better vehicles at a minimum and I haven't had to do half of the crap to that truck as I've had to do to that goddamn Jetta.

Yeah my sister had a Jetta that thing broke like it was going out of fucking style! I felt bad for her. Both my parents had Passats at one point and they seemed to hold up fairly good.

I completely agree with your statement. I bought a brand new 01 VW Golf (in 2000), and about a couple months just before the 5 year warranty expired, my engine started losing oil. I kept having to replinish the oil as the light kept coming on, about 1 litre every 2 fill ups. What was odd was that there was no oil patch in my garage, so the oil was obviously going somewhere.

So by the time I found that there was something wrong (I had to top up the oil about 2-3 times before I really determined something was wrong), the warranty period expired. When I took it in, I was told that the engine needed a complete rebuild. The explanation I received was that the oil was leaking INSIDE the engine. I also asked for the error code on their computer which is their diagnostic code so I could do further research on the problem.

I then went home and googled the code. What I found out was what really pissed me off. This was a common problem with VW Golfs from 2000-2003, where the piston seals were installed BACKWARDS, hence the leaking problem. In laymans terms, it was THEIR FUCKUP. So I called VW again and explained what my knowledge of the code was, and they gave me the whole "your 5 year warranty is up, too fucking bad". I was so fuckin pissed; I could handle if it was my fault or it was my normal wear and tear driving that caused this problem, but it was clearly their problem right from the start. And the way they don't disclose this information, they keep it hidden and will only disclose it when people bring in their Golfs that are having problems is what really irks me about VW. So basically, VW is "hoping" that your car will make it past the 5 year period, and then they're off the hook.

If I had the web knowledge that I have now, I would have setup my own VW sucks website and SEO'd the shit out of it, but I didn't have fuck all to work with. I sent a letter to the president of VW Canada explaining my situation, and all I got was a phone call back saying "too bad, so sad".

So basically I got rid of that piece of shit and will never touch VW or Audi again. Fuck VW.

I accidentally drained my transmission fluid instead of my oil once. I then found out that the transmission in my Mini Cooper uses a special fluid only made by BMW. $100 and a week later it finally arrived. That sucked.

Speaking from experience;

1) Don't sleep and drive on a highway with unseparated opposite lanes

2) Remember to make sure your spring break road trip van has oil in it

3) Replacing the battery on a Chrysler 300M Sucks.

4) Always remember to screw the cap back onto the engine after filling oil. Lol, I forgot this on my 2nd car one time when I was 19. Drove around and black smoke started coming out from the hood. The mess was undescribable. :D

Just take my word for it all.

Oh and, a friend of mine once test drove a used car from a dealership. Him and his dad took it down the freeway, but about 10 minutes down the road - all the sudden - the hood slammed right up in an instant and smashed the windshield. They almost shit themselves from the loud noise and shock from seeing the windshield shatter at 90mph but were able to stop and return to the dealer. Appearantly, someone hadn't shut the hood properly before the drive.. :)

Nahh. I'm pretty sure it's the flux capacitor.

Fibulator - I've got a mechanic buddy who says this when he doesn't feel like explaining things. It's sorta creeped into real life to... I tell my kids that's why their toys don't work, etc....

One of my old girlfriends had one of those little tiny cars - an Omni I think. She took it in to get her brakes done and had a coupon so it should have been $55 (i'm old remember). They told her she had floating rotors and charged her $100 extra :)

Got to love mechanics.

LOL Ive Flipped on car multiple times (got arrested for reckless driving) Ive blown up almost every car Ive owned. Ive sent spark plugs through the fucking hood once, a Rod through my Radiator, Ive caught a car on fire. Ive had about 15 tickets ranging from no seatbelt, to felony reckless driving and felony reckless endangerment of a minor,( i was 18 and a friend of mine was 17) and ive been pulled over somewhere around 90 to 120 times. And i live in a town of only 25k, the cops really hate me. But i love my fast cars, and i love driving them fast. Hell i had one of my motors blow up at 145 when i was running from the cops on the freeway, the cops told me that that was punishment enough and drove off. lol

2000 Jeep Cherokee -

Windows break, door locks break and the dash tweeters blow all the fucking time. In my search for cheaper parts I found www.jeeptweeter.com and then I knew I was fucked for life.

Weird... I have a 99 Cherokee Classic and the only major things I have had to do were the power windows d/p and the evaporator like twice. Mine has the basic factory sound system so no tweeters. Its been a pretty damn good car for the last 10yrs. Jeeps are built like tanks.

i used to work at a jeep dealership in the parts dept. jeeps have fucking awful repair records. they break down more than any car i've ever seen. they're easy to fix, of course, but they are awful in terms of things breaking.

My 99 chevy metro that I bought new
- Rotors and pads stripped (replaced)
- engine block cracked (wanting to buy a new engine, its a good gas saver)

Wife's Red 98 Geo Metro
- Head on collision by a drunk driver

94 Plytmonth Van ("Van of Death")
- Engine fire at random times
- Tires rolled past the driver side while driving at 45mph (mechanic didn't really bolt the back tire on)
- Doors wouldn't stay shut (opened up once on the highway)
- Leaky
- structural problems
- Sold for scraps

93 Honda Accord
- Leaks when raining
- Transmission failing
- ended up selling

91 Chevy Suburban 1.5ton
- Taillight and headlights kept going out (traced to an electrical wiring problem, fixed)
- Missing an engine mount (can still drive just don't gas it)
- Leaks coolant
- Starter died (replaced)
- cigarette lighter don't work

The truck is what we currently use, it has a rebuilt engine (only 50K on it since rebuilt by the manufacture themselves), We want to get the engine mount in, but don't have anyone with the tools (we got the part). It's not all that great on gas, but it was the only vehicle we could find for under a thousand that didn't seem like it was gona die on us.

Still have the 99 chevy metro, as everything except the engine is in great shape, just need a new engine, just haven't come up with the money for one yet.
