CDC EPR | Social Media | Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse - Blog

The viral marketing campaign from the CDC begins:
There are all kinds of emergencies out there that we can prepare for. Take a zombie apocalypse for example. That’s right, I said z-o-m-b-i-e a-p-o-c-a-l-y-p-s-e. You may laugh now, but when it happens you’ll be happy you read this...
One glaring omission from their emergency preparedness kit and planning is weaponry of any kind. What self-respecting zombie flick doesn't have gratuitous use of weapons to fend off the zombie hordes?

They go on to explain how they would effectively handle the outbreak:
If zombies did start roaming the streets, CDC would conduct an investigation much like any other disease outbreak. CDC would provide technical assistance to cities, states, or international partners dealing with a zombie infestation...Not only would scientists be working to identify the cause and cure of the zombie outbreak, but CDC and other federal agencies would send medical teams and first responders to help those in affected areas (I will be volunteering the young nameless disease detectives for the field work).
Clever.

Is it just me or does the entire country seem like it's geared toward the under 25 crowd?

yeah, and it's pissing me off - even though I'm 24. I'm sick of the zombie fad, I'm sick of all this stupid shit to cater to millenials and their ADHD.

Fad???

I was watching zombie flicks when you were probably not even swimming around in you dads nut sack. I'd hardly call it a fad.

Personally, I love a good zombie flick, story, show; always have.

If you think the zombie "fad" is aimed just to people under that age you are sadly mistaken.

It's a fad again because it's recently come to prominence rather than just being the underground zombie flicks like it used to. I know Dawn of the Dead etc etc, but all the bullshit now is just way too popular.

They should have mentioned planting the blue flowers in front of your sunflowers... (AKA Plants vs Zombies.)

Seriously, this is some good stuff from them; I doubt their entire site is aimed at the kiddies, so it's fine by me that they are doing stuff like this to attract this crowd.

You know whats worse? The 'Vampire' fad.

FUCK YOU VAMPIRES! - get OUT of my Fantasy/Sci-Fi section at B&N, Amazon, etc.

I fucking hate those stupid sparkly vampires.

This is a branding effort on the CDC's part. The agency realizes young people today are less likely to get lathered up about swine flu and similar bullshit than their parents and grandparents. The CDC ain't "cool."

That's a problem. No lathering, less federal funding. Less federal funding... don't get me started.

The solution? Appeal to the young on their turf. Talk less about smallpox, and start blogging about an upcoming zombie outbreak. In terms of appealing to the young, it's no different than what this knucklehead did years ago...

Guess I'm the only one who thought the thread title was referencing Cult Dead Cow and some new super zombie botnet? /geek

The actual story is way more bizarre haha.

I must be the only one who doesn't get the whole zombie/vampire thing. It's fucking stupid. You might as well just obsess over the tooth fairy or easter bunny.
