Changing an LLC's Name

Registered my first LLC under a very niche nutraceutical name last year. Never followed through with my nutra project so it just doesn't make sense anymore.

Too many people scratching their heads in confusion and I'm tired of telling my little 2min story. It's as easy as filing a simple form to change the LLC's name with your state, but I'm curious about things like amex, merchant accounts, gateways, etc.

Anyone ever gone through this process before? Is it a pain in the ass?

I thought about that, but now that I'm 100% focused on info products I'd like to start building my empire/umbrella and the LLC name is just so unrelated and I'd rather leave it behind for good.

Just curious what's easier: changing the name vs. registering a brand new LLC.
 
If you have a solid credit history under your old LLC then you might want to keep it, but it sounds like it's only a year old so it's unlikely that there would be any significant advantage to that.

You should call Amex and tell them what your intention is to see if you'll have any trouble getting an account under the new company name. It's based off of your personal credit anyway so it shouldn't be a problem.

Same with a merchant account, you got it based on your personal credit, not your businesses credit so unless something has changed significantly it shouldn't be a problem. The problem you might have with that though is there is a whole different set of underwriting involved with your product change I would imagine. It's still "card not present", but now it's no longer a physical product so they will probably factor that in. But you're going to have to do that anyway in order to process the shit.

Regardless of the difficulty does it really matter? It sounds like you want everything to be in alignment (branding, products, ect), if it means that much to you just get it done and move forward.

It depends on what state you file in. Some states are 50 bucks, mine is $150, some are $500 or more. Some require that every single year, mine is free to file renewals.

Check your state's website, the cost will be listed and you can probably file online.
