Hey since i'm turning 21, I wont be on my parents health insurance much longer. I can't exactly "rambo" it because I've been feeling pretty shitty a lot over the last year.

Anyone have any ideas for cheap health insurance for young adults?

Cheers

I checked PHP but those fucks want like $500+/month just for me, which is ridiculous IMO.

I'll check out Blue Cross though thanks

Can you just post your fav here?

Just to put some numbers out - I pay $258/mo for blue cross's cheapest plan and I'm 22.

I just got a new plan a few month ago (not too happy with it however), so maybe I will be able to help.

Do you plan to use the insurance for regular doctors visits or just for emergencies?

There are some cheap plans out there, as low as $60/month, but all of them have high deductibles - so they not a good option if you plan to actively use the insurance.

How often do you go to the doctor? Are you taking any expensive medications?

I suggest you look into the new Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). You combine this with a high-deductable insurance plan.

Great Tax benefits! Check it out.

I probably see the doctor 1-2 times per month lol. I've actually seen them 4 times within the last couple weeks because I've been really sick w/o improvement.

I also travel a fair amount in the summer, and it would be nice if it could cover emergency visits for Canada and such.

I used to be healthier, but I got mono about 1 1/2 years ago and since then its been pretty crappy.

Also I'll check out that Health Savings Plan, thanks.

High deductible is the way to go, I think mine is like $1200 or so, I pay around $60 or $70 a month through American Family.

bcbs is the least expensive around here. i love how they increase my rate every year, but will not release the mathematics behind it..

I like how being a former cancer patient makes me rejected or screwed over on price no matter who I choose for health care. :|

If you live in a big city, pick up a decent fake id. Keep it in case you need to go to the emergency room. Let them fuck up the credit of the name on the fake id when you don't pay the bill. This is probably illegal, but it works. They don't verify ssn or credit when you arrive at the hospital for an emergency.

All these pansies wanting universal health care? Make your own! :anon.sml:

Or just go with Blue Cross.

I hear there is nice universal health care in prison too. :Yahoo_29:

Then HSA might not be the best option. I have an HSA plan with a $2500 deductible and its not a very good deal for regular doctors visits.
Check out RevolutionHealth.com , they have a very good plan comparison tool on their website.

You could enroll in some online classes. That way you'd be in 'school' and you would be covered until age 25.

If you wanna be real sneaky, register for some online classes, tell the insurance co. that you're in school full time and you'll be covered; you'll probably have to fax in your class schedule. After they receive it, you'll be covered for 12 months. Then, drop your class schedule to 1 class or something like that.

Call it black-hat insurance.

Shoot - Sign up for community college. Go to your first classes.

Have insurance through your parents for another year :) - Most family plans cover college aged children IN SCHOOL.

Since most community colleges are dirt cheap it's probably more affordable to just go to school. (or pretend to).

Haha, I agree. That's what I used to do. $1200 and I was on my parents health insurance for the year.

Move to europe - France has the best universal health care in the world, or fly to the UK for any treatment they treat anyone @ A&E no need for insurance. Why not send Michael Moore an email he's got all the research from his film Sicko?
