Ok well that post was from me but Jason is on the other computer logged in and for some reason it is showing it from him. Bleh.

I do have a question for those of you that did it at home. I had my little girl naturally but I am terrified to do it at home in case of an emergency. Did anything go wrong at your births and if so how was it handled? Were you afraid of something going wrong and not being able to get to a hospital on time?

There are of course risks in a hospital environment, too. (For our first child, it was because of the hospital's procedures and our own inexperience with them that my wife had complications during the labor and ended up having a surgical delivery.)

Anyway, what we were told is that even if you're at the hospital the time it takes to get a room available and ready for any emergency is about the same as the time it would take to ride over to the hospital in an ambulance.

Thankfully, nothing went wrong during the home delivery...except that there was some miscommunication between the two midwives and one of them didn't get to our house in time...so the lead midwife called an ambulance and had the two EMT guys outside the room on standby just in case she needed any help with the delivery. We also had a massage therapist helping out, and she did most of the hand holding, back rubbing, etc. I just milled around and did a few gopher kind of things...which was perfectly fine with me. :)

Damn, i'm writing that down for the next one.

I did plenty of research, and given how incredibly low risk we were, there was really nothing to fear. So many complications come from just being in a hospital environment - be it simple anxiety in an unfamiliar, sterile place, or the fact that you are often forced to stay in bed much of the time. We didn't have a single thing go wrong at our homebirth, and it hurt like hell. Just like it was supposed to. :)

Birth is not a medical event. Women have been doing it since the beginning of time. It's what we are BUILT to do. You gotta have faith in that. :)

All five at home, one without a trained professioal by choice. First one was 25 years ago.
One had a true knot in the cord, light meconium (sp?) staining, got suctioned and was fine. One had her hand up by her face, I got rolled over, the hand moved back and everything was fine.
I'm 5'2" and the babies were between 7 lbs 15 oz and 9lbs 8oz.
Can't imagine being in the hospital. Since siblings were around, they got to bake a cake and decorate for the "birth"day while I labored. I liked knowing the people who were there.

WOW-WF has it all in their threads-boobs, births, and.......gay forum affiliate stuff!

Very arty photos.

Your son looks mean (in a good way...)

Wow, going by your 5'11'' height, i think your kids will be in the 6'+ league.

Jobwise, failing which your son could go into the WoW game gold business.

I admire women for having gone through pregnancy.

I was there with my wife during her natural childbirth and it's definitely something that will test your mettle.

I checked out Anna Nicole's caesaran video clip over at annanicoleoverdose.com and I'm glad i didnt have a heavy meal before watching that!

Awwww, thanks! I think they are much cuter here, here and here. Hehehe.

Our 5 year old plays a mean game of WoW. (Yes, I know that's bad for him. lol) But yeah, I don't intend for them to ever have a 'real' job - unless they really want to. :)

Seriously, Anna Nicole could have underwent circumcision, a breat implant, rhinoplasty, and more without every feeling a thing. I dont think her brain was connected to anything other than her wonderful tits.

I loved it. I will do again next time too. I enjoyed knowing I did something not all women can do.

About complications...we had our own. If I hadn't been at the hospital she may have died. They had to give me a super dose of pitocin to keep the contractions one after the other during pushing. Her heart rate was dropping rapidly so I had to get her out fast. Once out, they saw the cord was wrapped around her foot and was kinking. If I hadn't pushed her out so fast it would have stopped her heart eventually.
