China opens world's longest sea bridge, 34.46 Kilometers on the sea

So odd to see where they built it, but I guess it must have been too deep out there?

Or the ground could have been too soft, or maybe mountains in the way, or maybe there was oil or other liquids in that spot so the beams may not have settled correctly, etc. Lots of reasons. :)

That is a great thing.... thanks for sharing

First post and you comment on Chinese bridges... not suss at all. I expect we will soon see you in BST selling profile links, link pyraminds/towers/wheels... link bridges perhaps..

Good one!

Next week's headline:

China cleans up debris from world's largest bridge disaster

That's what I thought too. Had to have cost billions, they wouldn't have built it without some kind of trick up their sleeve to safeguard against that. But what kind of trick can safeguard against bigass waves slamming boats around etc?

According to the article in the Times, it's built to withstand an impact from a 300,000 ton vessel. That's quite impressive. :)

China Opens World’s Longest Sea Bridge

EDIT: Doh! And that's more than likely why it's not built in a straight line as well. Tougher to break a curve than a line.

You're seeing too much cntv...

Also, if I had a euro for each collapsed Chinese building...

Both instances of those photos were engineer issues that were spotted before being opened to residences or the public. They were both destroyed in a controlled environment and neither case was anybody hurt. Source? I lived in China for years and know about both of these incidents.

As well in America things such as this happen. Remember about 5 years ago when bridges started collapsing left and right? Our infrastructure here in America is in need of serious upgrade and yet many fail safety inspections yearly.

Anyone else notice that this hasn't made the American news at all... That page linked above is Yahoo! India... CNN asia doesn't even mention this!

Just like no news about the high-speed rail from singapore to London that china is working on right this minute?

Just like how China has the biggest wind farms and solar farms in the world, yet american media constantly harps on how they produce the most CO2 or other pollution?

There is clearly, obviously, and totally an American media blackout on China's ability to whoop our ass. I wouldn't be surprised to hear they cured cancer in the 1980's at this point!

probably didn't find a cure yet but scientists are flocking to a region in China where there's virtually 0 cancer, trying to figure out why

The Huge Dam they built is already proven to be a huge damage to the enviroment and also disaster to their own people....Not sure about this bridge...

After all it's made in china..

That's actually Interstate 35W Mississippi River Bridge which collapsed in Minnesota during 2007. Your second photo was also a planned demolition on a bridge in China before it opened to the public (Notice no cars on the road?) due to a fault that was inspected and found before opening. It's a bit sad to see so much negative misinformed information here about a country that is actually quiet beautiful and is home to some of the world's most amazing architectural feats.

Seeing how the Chinese drive, I would not want to be on a long bridge driving with them! You wouldn't have a Chinaman's chance of surviving, as they used to say back in the day.

and I do believe they allow 100mph on the bridge..... imagine that with all Chinese drivers... yee haw! Good thing is if there is a crash they can just push the car over the side of the bridge.

There must be a good "engineering" explanation about the bridge. why it was built like that.
China is rich country LOL with super Cheap man Power and super cheap resources. That's why big corporation move their factory there.
that what I called superpower nation.
