Cold call hussle

Get clothes that fit well, aren't super cheap, but stay away from anything "flashy". DO NOT wear off the rack suits, dress shirts that don't fit etc.. Probably not that important if your just selling to people who do weddings, but in the professional world, nothing stinks of amateur more than someone who doesn't know how bad they look in that cheap or poorly fitted suit.

+1

Almost nobody is going to know the difference between a cheap suit and good suit if you get a good tailor.

The absolute worst thing you can do is to buy a suit off the rack and forego alterations because it fits "well enough".

If you do this, you'll look like a kid playing dress-up in his daddy's clothes, or some idiot showing up in court to plead no contest to a drug charge and that's exactly how you'll be treated.

You've gotten some good advice, some shit advice and some fluff advice. Here is some real advice:

Wear khakis and a nice button down shirt, WITH A BELT and your shirt tucked in and pants pulled above your ass. Wear practical , brown or black leather shoes. No Chucks or Air Jordans .... etc.

The best days to cold call are Wednesday [before lunch] and Friday [the later in the day the better].

I have been in sales for 18 years. I have sold Kirby Vacuums door to door, Encyclopedia's , Newspaper subscriptions , and Culligan Water Filtration during college. After college I worked in the Secondary Mortgage Market (selling packages of shitty credit subprime mortgages to investors) until I said fuck the rat race and ran for my sanity. I would advise to not try and employ the typical "sales behavior" you have been offered as you will come across clumsy and bumbling.

Keep your intro short, sweet and to the point. Let them know who you are, what you're offering and attempt to identify a pain you can alleviate. Otherwise you're pissing in the wind.

You don't want to charge in after watching a 12 hour marathon of "Boiler Room" and "Glengarry Glen Ross" and attempt to "psycho fuck" your sales prospect to learn they have just filed for Bankruptcy and are closing their doors. What you want to employ is called "QUALIFYING" the prospect , versus dazing and confusing them with your verbal and psychological judo skills many salespeople utilize. Ask simple , pointed questions and let your prospect speak... if you're smart, you will let them sell themselves. This is the Aikido approach to sales I prefer and it works.

If you're cold calling over the phone, that is different game entirely and the approach needs to be aggressive as fuck! But this a convo for another time.

Get some clothes.

Some pants without rivets, and shirt with buttons, and some shoes.

You don't need a watch, you just need to avoid looking like you are best friends with your customer's kids.

What if the customers kid is a snappy dresser?

Love the advices guys...I'll write me up some cheat sheet with bullet points with all relevant answers and situations about my service so no question swindles me or pauses me and trial call Friday after lunchtime.

No Air Jordans

Man, the corporate world sometimes :D

I love how childish and primitive it is. despite its seriousness....basically you need to prove your alpha, and it's a bitch of a task to do so, but once you've proven it, you can act and look how ever you want.

When you're broke and dress like shit, people judge the fuck out of you, call you a bum behind your back, don't really respect you etc. But when you're stankin rich and dress like a hobo, people admire it... "see, he really doesn't give a fuck, wow, I wish I could be like that".

The latter is my goal in life :D dress like I'm en route to the ballpark and still have all those schmucks buzzing around me and my money.
