So I woke up this morning to my credit monitoring provider saying there has been some changes posted on my record. I go OK, might be the new cell phone contract I just activated and it is all gravy. But no, apparently some company by the name of "Paul Mitchell Collections" put a outstanding balance of $1001 on my records and shot my credit score down 50 points? omg hai!

What do I do from here? And who the hell do I owe 1k to? It says nothing more than the company that is collecting an outstanding amount from me, that I have no clue what the charge is for...

Any help shall be rewarded with hugs and kisses (no homo).

Run your credit report, see where a delinquency has shown up , give the parent company, or the collection agency for that matter a call. If it's an error , they should fix it.

Damn, must have bought a lot of shampoo.

You can always get the address of the company and dispute the validity of the debt. Then, they will have to send you proof that this debt is yours and if they don't do it, they can't go after you any more. Just hound them, though, as you want to get that off your credit ASAP.

So if you do owe someone money legitimately, you can negotiate the amount of the debt you pay.. And you can also get them to remove the entry on your credit report once you pay them, so its like it never happened. But make sure you get it in writing as collections agencies are le sketch.

But first just hit the dispute this claim on your credit report, they have like 2 months or something (not sure on actual time period) to refute it or it just goes away.

Who the hell do I call to file a dispute on this claim though? Amex? Obama? Jesus?

Apparently I found their address and they're pretty close to where my GF lives. So I might as well go in person with a bunch of muslim arabs and see how that turns out.

You need to dispute with the actual credit reporting agency's it's showing up on: Equifax, Transunion, and Experien.

Chances are they will validate because they require no real proof from whomever put it on your account, it's basically just a computer query.

You should also dispute directly with whomever put in on your credit report, most likely the Collection Agency. You will send the a Request for Debt Validation.

All this should be in writing and with proper mailing forms (like return recipts) in case you have to take this to the court level you have something to show the judge.

The Collection agency has 30 days to remove it from your credit report or send you proof, they also might be snaky and just pass it onto someone else whom will just re-post this.

Anyways the general work-flow can be found here:

Good Luck!

Before calling them, Google "debt re-aging". All the collection agencies do it but it's illegal. If this debt is at a certain age (ie: 3 years since last action) and they report it to the big 3 today, they have to remove it when the statute expires. (I used to be an insider)

Here is an update.... I called the collection agency and the debt was a for unpaid blood test that insurance never covered for the amount of $1025. After some haggling, they bought it down to $875 cash but I was like ok, don't make a nigga bring some muslims but since I have a kind heart, I consolidated and looked for another solution.

After getting into contact with the actual medical biller, they said they would only bill me for $193 (what they would of charged the insurance company) and that would be it.

The moral of the story? ALL MY LIFE IVE BEEN REAL NIGGA
