College

Here's my take on it..

I never went to college; instead I stayed home, learned more about all things internet (design/coding/traffic generation via seo primarily) and I now make more than most my age. I also know more than all of my computer science major friends. I also have $0 debt from school loans.

If I had gone to college, I can say for an almost certainty that my time would have been spent less wisely, on things like getting trashed too frequently and hating the mostly useless curriculum they put you through, wasting my time.

If you're absolutely certain you'll be in a great school, and you won't waste it away / you'll stay focused, do it. Otherwise if you're only going to SHOW UP just to please your mother, don't fucking do it.

I just wanted to mention that this statement and the several above who also said it is stupid. College does not train you to work for other people nor does it even teach a skill to use in the work place. There are VERY few degrees that train you specifically for a real world job. This is even an argument many have against college.

College is more for self enrichment, social interaction, and general education. You learn about about a vast variability of subjects you would not other wise. Sure you may not "need" chemistry for affiliate marketing but knowing it makes you better off education wise. He also does not have to go into a 'general business' degree. Many schools have Entrepreneur programs specifically for self starters who do not want to work for others.

If you are not going to go to college at least take the time to educate yourself, so you don't end up a total moron.

Right, so it's either..

(a) Go to college and pay mid $xx,xxx to experience: "self enrichment, social interaction, and general education."

or

(b) Don't go to college and pay $0 to experience: "self enrichment, social interaction, and general education."

option (b) just requires some self motivation.

I went to college. I have huge amounts of student loan debt. The debt blows, yes, and I feel like an idiot for having it, but I did learn a lot in school, and I had EPIC FUCKING TIMES. Way more epic than studying, that's for fucking sure, but I really don't regret going for a fucking second.

First of all, if you don't go to an elite school and take a REAL major, college is fucking easy. Real easy. It's a joke, really, and that's one of the reasons not to go (and i know people who went to WCU, and I didn't sound like they were doing too much studying (or any), to be honest. The problem is that degrees are hugely devalued because even fucking morons can get that paper these days.

Look at it this way: the amount of time you waste browsing the internetz every day is equivalent to going to a few classes every day. It's not as huge of a time commitment as you think.

dude i just looked at WCU's tuition and it's fucking SIX GRAND A YEAR. GET YOUR FUCKING ASS IN THAT SCHOOL! YOU'LL ONLY BE PAYING 4500 OF THAT. FUCK, THAT'S NOTHING!

you could literally float through with C's, dude, party your ass off, bang hot sluts, make the monies online, pay your tuition like it ain't no thang, and have an awesome fucking time. seriously, that is basically free schooling if you're doing well on the internet. You'll fucking regret it, dude. you really will.
 
College is worth it, just don't look at it as a necessity to you making tons of money (it's not). The social aspect, connections, good times, drinking, and yes, even the education are all worth it imo. I study music production purely because I like it and it interests me (well, and I wanna possibly work at a record label).
 
The only good thing (for me) about college is the high concentration of young, attractive women. Thus, I do visit various colleges in my city. Via trespassing.
 
Your mom is an irrational idiot. If you don't go to college, she will get over it.

College is a waste of time and money. You would learn more from working a pointless 9-5 or living by yourself in a foreign country for six months, than you would learn from college.

shit im in college up here in potato land.

it's your choiceeee. im having fun, meeting new people everyday, hanging out, still trying to do my bizz. but sometimes the fucken school internet shuts down like one mofo.
 
Not to sound too harsh but keep this in mind:

You're not Bill Gates. You're not Steve Jobs. You're not Mark Zuckerberg.

You have the potential to get a lot out of college. Work hard to meet smart people and professors who you could work with to develop ideas and expand your current business. Who knows, maybe you'll find a smart CS major to partner up with and use your IM monies to start something really cool and innovative.

It won't hurt you if you take advantage of the opportunity. If you go there not wanting to be there and don't put any effort in, then yes, what is the point of going in the first place?
 
You can take the IM path any time,But you can't get in to the college after some considerable age.

First try to enjoy the life of college(Friends,Little fights,Seminars,Competitions) these are never come to your life later.

Take your IM as part time after finishing the degree, you get two paths
1.Full time IM life
2.9-5 Job
Always open for multiple opportunities.

I am out of state so I am looking at about 30k a year with room and board included.
