I like how the numbers were reduced about 5 times during the course of 28 years. Are we getting more peaceful or do we have factories ready to churn out those '86 figures in no time?

Most of the "2 million" Russian reserves are former draftees, not well trained professional/veteran troops. Many of them would desert or surrender in a real shooting war.

I think I'm a potential draftee for nato. When I was in army, I could have wanked at least 30 times per day and that was when the training was most intense. I wouldn't run/desert/surrender but I'm pretty sure I make a crappy soldier.

It's coming to the point that I think a nuclear war would be good for humanity in the long run.

For starters, when all civilization collapses, I'm going to round up a band of revolutionaries and usurp power from all governments. With me as benevolent dictator, I would force all fatties to get into shape and make everyone contribute to the common good of the collective. This is undoubtedly good because when I want to have sex with whatever female I please, there better be a lot of attractive females who are not fat on the streets. This is something we're going to have to do eventually for survival. With my sperm in every woman's womb, a new master race of super humans will be created.

It might also shut the trap of protestors who dislike centralized government and put aside all their energy into creating nuclear warheads to face the upcoming alien wars. You might not think now that humans will fight aliens, but I'm well ahead of you and prepared. Just bow down now and surrender before I force you into submission and have my assistant Igor over here pummel your mum in the ass for national public television.

I would count as a "reserve" for nato, and i would surrender at first sight!

We have more efficient weaponry now. Comparing F-22s to the fighters being produced during the cold war is like comparing Formula 1 to NASCAR. Also, modern thermonuclear warheads are much wilder than early versions. The yields of the more recently developed are insane.
 
Is the US and Russia go to war together, there will be no winners, and none of us will enjoy living through it, making this whole debate pretty moot.
 
if i didn't know any better i'd say this thread is full of neckbeard hetero's burping at each other over the global might of world superpowers

The russian army uses old crappy equipment with a few elite units and some decent technology in there that can stack up against most world militaries.

The US military is so far ahead in terms of technology, logistics, firepower and actual high tech usable equipment this kind of "7500 tanks vs 3500 tanks" comparison is meaningless.

The rest of NATO is better run and better equipped than Russia but lots of individual European forces but with duplicated equipment and logistical chains and also spending is declining in Europe on defence.
